Gorgeous girl, terrible movie
She had a fantastic body. Too bad it was wasted in this pretentious piece of trash.

shareNot enough serial killers?
shareHahaha, no.
shareSometimes a movie is ambitious and fails or doesn't entirely succeed in its ambitions and then it inevitably gets labeled as "pretentious trash". No one has ever explained to me though why THAT is a worse crime than spending $200 million to make another "Transformers" sequel or just more of the same old *beep*
In Spanish "pretender" means "to try" or "to attempt unsuccessfully" and I imagine that's closer to the original Latin meaning. "Pretentious" has taken on this horribly negative connotation in American English though like, "How dare you actually TRY to make a great movie when you can just make another reboot of 'Star Wars', 'Spider Man' or 'Godzilla' and laugh all the way to the bank?!"
I don't think this movie worked (although I definitely agree with the "gorgeous girl" part), but it's an interesting movie and I'm glad they TRIED something different.
I agree. Just because I thought it failed, doesn't mean I resent the attempt. There's a reason I gave this movie a try, and yet haven't even considered seeing the latest Transformers sequel, or the Spider Man reboot, or what have you.
shareI don't believe it deserves the term "Pretentious" which suggests the film makers think they are better than you and if you do not like it then you just don't get it. It seems most films that are of the art house variety get nailed with the label unfairly. I believe the term should be reserved for the message of the film which rarely would you indeed then encounter a "pretentious" . All in all an over used and misused adjective IMO.
My Vote history:
I wouldn't call it pretentious. If they had long shots of Emily Browning's face or an hour of her sleeping that would be pretentious.
