Anyone else weirded looking back....

After seeing Emily Browning's sexy nude body in this movie, it weirds me out now to go back and see her in "A Series of Unfortunate Events", which is my favorite of her movies.

Does that ever happen to you? Like, you see an adult actress naked onscreen and you lust for her, but then you see her as an underage teenager in another movie and you realize that still having that lust for her then makes you feel like a real perv?

I think males, especially American males, are getting psychologically damaged by an irrational fear of pedophilia actually. There IS a point where a non-pedophile is simply not going to be SEXUALLY attracted to a girl. I didn't find Emily Browning sexually attractive in "Ghost Ship" (when she was 11 or 12), but I definitely did in this movie and in "Summer in February". The thing is that point doesn't necessarily correspond to a girl's 18th birthday. You don't just go from "she's 17 and a half--eww yuck!" to "she's 18--man, I want *beep* her!".

You probably feel "weird" because you DO find her somewhat attractive in "Lemony Snicket", but that's totally normal. I wouldn't recommend actually sleeping with underage girls if you're over 25 for a lot of reasons, but OF COURSE they're going to hold somewhat of an attraction to normal adult males as soon as they develop breasts and hips and physically resemble adult women. That's not even necessarily "ephebophilia" (a perverse attraction to adolescent girls) and it's definitely NOT "pedophilia" (an attraction to pre-pubescent children).

I don't know, people are so crazy on this subject that they'll accuse you of being a "pedophile" if you're attracted to the ADULT Browning because she's petite and has small breasts (like adult women sometimes do). I think people like that are the ones who are *beep* up. If some people seem to see homoeroticism everywhere, it might just be because they themselves are homosexuals. So what does that say about people who see "pedophilia" everywhere?

You make a good point. I look forward the the subsequent flame war.

Funny you should bring that up.

I recently started watching Married With Children after not having seen it since it originally aired. Now, after 24 years of marraige, my wife knows my tastes very well. So whenever Kelly is on the screen wearing some skimpy outfit, my wife smacks my arm and (jokingly) mutters, "Stop it! She's sixteen years old!"

Thing is, as a kid I grew up with an enormous crush on Christina Applegate, and I happen to know her birthday is exactly four days before mine that same year. So I smile and laughingly remind my wife of that fact.

Does that make me some dirty old man? Meh, to some people I'm sure it does. To my mind, I'm a teenage boy again. I don't consider myself a perv at all. I just know what I like, and always have liked. I think the same can be said for most men. After all, there's a reason it's called "jail bait." Without some form of innate attraction, the term wouldn't exist.

My two cents' worth.

Good men don't need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have so many.

Thank you. I'm not sure how many people think like you, but I'm one for sure. Perhaps it's our age group? (I graduated HS in 1988). IMHO, for a "grown" man watching a movie and having the slightest thought of attraction to a female teenager on the screen is normal behavior, as inside all of us remains that 14/15/16 y.o. boy that sat in class and (for lack of a better word) fantasized about a particular girl in class that you found attractive. Not necessarily in the I want to jump her now way, but just the thought of having her as your girlfriend ("going together"), or just the fact the girl was fine as hell.

However, if we're talking about oogling teens at the mall or something, then that's creepy. Look, recognize, let the thought pass is my motto, lol.

Well, in the Lemony Snicket film, the wicked uncle played by Jim Carrey actually wanted to force the underage Violet (the Emily Browning character) into marriage.

Ture, but he was only after the money. He wanted her and her siblings dead.
