Or are all new episodes pre-recorded?
They never say they're live but during commercial breaks they show runs when they return as if it's done live possibly.
Does anyone know? I did a quick Google around and didn't immediately find a clear answer.
I don't think so. I read an article once where they said a lot of the first round runs take place at 2 or 3 in the morning as they have a lot of competitors. it would be cool if they had stage 3 and stage 4 live as there are only 20 or so competitors. although I wonder if they show the runs in a different order for dramatic effect.
shareI was getting the impression that it isn't really live, yeah. Maybe some episodes are, but most seem pre-recorded, despite them showing runs during the commercial breaks as if they were missed due to it being live or such. Would be nice if more episodes were live -- has more suspense to it knowing it's happening right there as you watch it. Knowing it's pre-recorded kind of takes away from it.

shareThis show is actually shot months in advance. They just package it like a live event to make it exciting.
shareI don’t think it’s feasible to do it live. I think there is a lot more dead time in between runs than we see on tv. All the obstacles need to be reset, and there are a lot more contestants that aren’t shown on tv. I read an article from someone that competed in the show and he said it starts around 6pm, and runs until about 5 in the morning.
