Documentary series on Hulu has an episode on Mr. Brainwash:

Not particularly good; Thierry is still Thierry. In it, while in one of Thierry's studios, you get a glimpse of a stencil of a boy looking through a camera. I saw this on Hollywood Blvd and thought it was Banksy, but not one of his better pieces. Turns out it's by Mr. Brainwash...

As for thinking that MBW's piece was a bad Banksy, I'm not surprised. MWB's work, what I've seen of it, seems extremely derivative (and I'm not saying that is particularly good or bad). I wouldn't be surprised if most of his work, sees, each piece on its own, would be mistaken for a "not quite up to par" work by a more famous artist.
