Banksy's identity

Is Banksy's real identity Steve Lazarides, his former spokesperson/manager from UK? Watching the film, Banksy wears a wedding ring when doing graffiti in LA and when being interviewed he does not wear a wedding band. There are two scenes with Steve Lazarides in film and he wears a wedding ring like Banksy's in one scene but no ring in the other scene. Just an observation...

reply

that's a strange coincidence...

don't you know there ain't no devil, theres just God when he's drunk...

reply

Banksy doesn't always wear his ring either, for example when he's making the orange doll. However he seems to more frequently wear his rectangular watch and handchain on his left arm.

Steve Lazarides also wears a watch, but on his right arm.

I don't buy the Robert Cunningham story. I think it's a red herring to throw people off. He puts all this effort in being anonymous, and a month of investigation turns him up? *beep* And the Daily Mail is a tabloid. No other news outlet picked that up, so it obviously has 0 credibility.

reply

I don't think you can really go off his mannerisms or whether he was wearing a wedding band in the film or not, for all we know the person interviewed wasn't him at all, his face was blurred and his voice was modulated. He could've easily dubbed his own modulated voice during editing, for all we know he could be black! And the white guy was just in there to throw us off, same goes for when he is taped setting up his art.

reply

There is a lot of actual footage of Banksy doing street art on youtube... and he is white. Unless you're going to suggest Banksy also hires people to do his art for him just so his identity is safe.

I'm not sure if the OP was joking but a wedding ring is not some rare thing and hardly serves as evidence that someone else is Banksy because they wear one. My dad wears a wedding ring and I'm pretty sure he's not Banksy. Someone else in the film having a wedding ring is not a shocking Banksy clue, I'm pretty sure it just means this Steve guy is married too. And by the way they do, surprisingly, come off. You're acting like the ring is some weird birthmark only Banksy has. It's a fecking wedding ring.

reply

I don't know who Bansky is. But he ain't black. I do know that

reply

Look at Cunningham, then Google for Banksy's self portrait.

Its him, or he wants us to believe it is.

Oh, and read the actual text of the article.

reply

While watching the movie, it stood out to me that the Banksy we see sounded like he had a Bristol burr to his accent.

Then I come here, see that article, and read that this Robin Cunningham hails from...Bristol. Interesting.

Just for the record, I'm female.....at least, last time I checked...

reply

i dont know if oyu were being "funny", but its common knowledge hes from bristol.

I don't know that Banksy has gone to extreme lengths to conceal his identity. He just doesn't do publicity or seek exposure. I guess he does most of his work at night, but there is no way you could do create the pieces he has done and not be seen. It's pretty much impossible.

reply

What if... Banksy isn't anybody at all? What if 'Banksy' is a team of artists - a street art collective - originally from Bristol?

Ignore people with ignore lists in their sig.
