This topic is meant for those who tend to skew more toward believing this film is a hoax.
Now, the elaboration of this hoax, should it be a hoax, is legendary. Andy Kaufman would give it a standing O.
Now, is the consensus that this entire film is a hoax? From conception to completion just a total hoax. That Thierry was hired as an actor for everything.

Do some of you feel that maybe the hoax was against Thierry. A cruel joke of sorts. That he actually thought he was being taken seriously but he is the target?
I've only seen it the one time a few days ago, I know practically nothing about Banksy other than seeing his stuff everywhere, but I fancied watching something different.. I personally thought Thierry was making the documentary for real, and Life Remote Control was a genuine effort by him, then after Banksy explains how they switched roles, he took over the project and it was all done as a joke with Thierry in on it. It was when Thierry first said "Mr Brainwash" I started to think it might not be as it seems.
It wasn't till a couple days later that I started to think it was all a hoax. I'll have to watch it again before I can make more sense of it.
I agree with sgreen81. Thierry seems more or less believable until he becomes Mr. Brainwash and starts creating all that art. That just doesn't seem to be a part of his character that we had seen in the movie up to that point.
Moreover Banksy goes out of his way to show that Thierry isn't much of an artist by showing us the video he made from his years of work filming street artists. Then he makes his point that any schlub can have a successful art show with the right promotion.
It isn't really true of course. People won't pay to see just anything. Thierry didn't really come up with the ideas for his art show. It was mostly Banksy himself. The style is recognizable. That is the biggest hoax of the movie.
Agreed, bsharp. After reading a lot of comments here in the message board, I was beginning to wonder if I was one of the only ones who could see Banksy's style all over "Mister Brainwash's" artwork.
Mr. brainwash is, unfortunately, real. Check ebay and see how much his prints go for. The film clearly shows that Thierry employed "real" artists to construct the art for him. Any similarity between Banksy and MBW is because brainwash is completely derivative in context. If anything, Banksy's anti-art themes are a direct critique of MBW.
