What was Brian Cranston doing in this film?

Awesome actor, but really silly role for him.

Missed hanging around Fuzz from Fox's "That 70's Show".

"She filled the blank with a tube of denture cream and a false sense of superiority."

he's a man being a man!

The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.

reply

What's all the fuss about? He drinks too much in public, and he likes to lounge around during the day looking at large breasts on line, while his wife teaches at a community college.

That's a character we can all relate to.

Save me from the people who would save me from myself

reply

Next time he'll have to find a woman who's on board with that.

reply

So it would seem, what a absurd character. What kind of screen writer would come up with this?

I don't get what is going on with Bryan Cranston. First, he is a meth kingpin, then he is married to Julia Roberts and is unemployed?

"They just don't realize." "Donnie can go in there and make them love me".

Have you not noticed??

Since Breaking Bad, he has only taken supporting roles.
Why would he go for another major role right now? He's Heisenberg!

reply

Have you heard about the Cranston Project Assessment Scale? It's something like this:

"On the left he writes the offers in blue ballpoint. Along the top, five categories, listed in decreasing order of importance - Story, Script, Role, Director, Cast - each of which he gives a score to. There are bonus points (salary) and minus points (time away from family). And then he decides. Anything under 16, no way. Anything more than 25, you bet. Argo, directed by Ben Affleck, was a 28. Breaking Bad maxed it out."

Yes, he is THAT methodical.

I bet this movie scored quite well in Director (Bryan is best friends with Tom Hanks) and Story (is quite good, actually, even not being 'Breaking Bad' level).
The script had no big holes and inconsistencies, either. Could be worse. Julia Roberts and Hanks may have added some points to Cast, too, which is by the way the category who counts the less of the five (regarding amount of points).

As for the character, it was like the loser version of Walter White, he's so silly he could be Hal's cousin. But it's work, and what could an actor ask for more than that? A little vacation from an extenuating TV show.

Of course it's not definitive. He initially turned down Godzilla because it scored 20 points, but later accepted the role.

He also had a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in That Thing You Do. I think him and Hanks are besties.

this must have gotten a 30 pt. score.

This was a pre-season exhibition game for Brian Cranston. The bigger question is what is Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts doing in this B-crap movie? ๐Ÿ˜จ

Larry Crowne star Bryan Cranston was courtside for Wednesday nightโ€™s tilt between the San Antonio Spurs and Philadelphia 76ers at Wells Fargo Center. Cranston, who played Martin Rutgers on a 1998 episode of Diagnosis Murder, came face-to-butt with the backside of Spurs guard Tony Parker before an inbound play and, yes, Cranston thought about it.

Welcome to 21st century American life! It's not supposed to be entertaining like any other movie. This is life as the unemployed know it. The whole thing was just about providing a very subtle message to everyone who's struggled the last 10 years with a bad case of Long Term Unemployment & No Balance to cover the bills.

People jump into a whole slew of different careers, relocate to other portions of the world, take lowest paying jobs they can find to get by.

Hell, even the upper management exec that fired Hank's character and mocked him for being a cook in the Navy ended up delivering pizzas like real people have even after having a job worth 5 times more.

I can only pray no one on this board has to suffer the same consequences of many folks I meet on a monthly basis. If you do, you may think twice about how low quality your impression was of this movie.

reply

i thought his performance should have been nominated.

Cranston and Hanks go way back. Bryan had roles in movies/series that Hanks either starred produced or directed:

That Thing You Do
Saving Private Ryan
From the Earth to the Moon

he clearly knows quality.
