i keep thinking matt will change but he doesn't

we are so used to the storyline where the bad guy becomes good upon some conversation with his foil or some situation he encounters. season 4 episode 2 surprised me over and over because they kept setting us up to think that matt will change. he has the convo with sean and it sounds like he'll have a change of heart then he goes to his ex wife again to make her marry the abusive guy. then he has that conversation on the beach with the sweeper and he names the ridiculous things he has and how the guy worked for him for 18 years, and he still fires him. that scene was so incredibly sad.

Clearly, only Matt LeBlanc can play Matt LeBlanc. The scene where he has to make cutbacks is the best. Was it an anti-homage to Fantasy Island?

I love that he doesn't change. I don't want him to change. It would be a very boring show if he became a good guy. What fun is that? Much of the comedy is him being a jerk.

Agree completely. As they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
