Is The 20 Minute Opening Title Sequence Absolutely Necessary?
Golly that thing takes forever to finish. :l
shareGolly that thing takes forever to finish. :l
shareThat is by far the worst opening sequence I have ever seen. It has nothing to do with the length, it's just boring.
shareI personally love it. The perfect script in England gets blasted as soon as it reaches America (Hollywood).
If you really want to see a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad opening then look no further than Orange Is The New Black. It's literally a minute and (almost) a half of self-indulgent stretches upon stretches of face montages. The music doesn't help it either. Nails on chalkboard.

Well, it must have been one hell of a night we're about to have.
I'm a fan of the intro, too. It's funny to watch the script for Limon's Boys spring to life and make its way to America just to get shot down as soon as it gets there.

wtf is ur problem ppl with this opening? the music's good. I hate the way english ppl say "montage", i don't throw it in their faces via writing (i'm not doing that, no.).
ps: oh but lemme guess, ur bluray player cant fast forward enough for ur lazy eye & ur blaming all the wrong ppl fo'it? am i right? am i?
I hate the way english ppl say "montage"
it's like they tone-deaf or smtg, no big dealio tho.
shareTone deaf saying the word montage? How does that work?
Babies kill TV shows!
meh with papier-maché ofc
shareIt's not about the papier-mache or the tone of the title singers... it's about the opening title being three seconds, as opposed to being three minutes long. Dump the flying jazz script animation opus and give us more ACTUAL show.
"Girls" has an even more desirable intro. The word "Girls" flashes on screen for 3/4's a second and the show begins.
well i agree meta-style in the sense that some parts of this show really need 2 be trimmed down (no pun intended), like for example the whole sex therapist scene was boring a bit, & the others i ffwd'd.
but whining on an opening sequence makes close 2 absolutely no sense to me, due to new technology (& the fact that if u hate on a opseq u kinda a troll urself), so sry if i kinda trolled on this thread, which i found interesting.
Don't exaggerate, it's less than 60 seconds.

Sry, i used some chaotic antilogic cuz i was pissed at op but u were a perfect candidate for it, see i like to think i fix things on the tv & ppl's minds with my weird posts (living got to have many purposes u know)
no it really wasn't a mistake on my part & sry if i offended ur stoneset sense of logic which i admire.
ps : i agree with u.

Might solve a mystery...or rewrite history...
The absolute worst opening EVER is The L Word.

This a million times. I LOVED Orange Is The New Black but I quickly mastered skipping ahead to 1:10 each episode.
Goddamn awful. Thank god Netflix skips intros. I hated the intro for House of Cards too, they're trying too hard to be HBO if you ask me. Intros are unnecessary for shows that were made to be binge watched.
share@NatSec-
I'm not a big fan of the opening either. I would like something more like the intro from these other Friend's shows-

I like it. It's a very smart intro
shareIt's more like twenty seconds, and I like it. It's not going to make many all-time great TV theme lists, but it's better than nothing or a silent title screen like some shows do.

love the opening sequence. love the typewriter sounds.
Do You Grok
I love the animated intro too - great visual and nice theme tune, with its lead trombone - you don't hear that very often! Some fans have speculated that the trombonist might be James Pankow of the band Chicago, John's brother. I kind of doubt it because John was reportedly a last minute replacement, but I do wish the musicians in the piece were credited - a frequent oversight on TV and film, where all the office workers are named but rarely individual soundtrack musicians.
By the way, I think any annoyance about the opening's length may have more to do with the ad for another show plus the recap scenes from previous episodes, adding to the relatively brief animation.
i like the music and the concept of the script being destroyed when it gets to hollywood but the whole visual looks very cheesy and non-befitting to me.
shareIt is 1m50s because I hit the 10 sec button exactly 11 times. I'm thinking it just seems long because it comes after the "previously on" segment. It also doesn't have any of the characters, or any people, for that matter. And quite frankly, the opening sequence is really dated given that they came over the pond 4 years ago.
I think my percentage of Chimp DNA is higher than others. Cleaver Greene
The animated title sequence is actually only 49 seconds long. On the latest episode it starts after the previous episode recap at 1:07 and ends at 1:56.
It's necessary because it shows what the main premise of the show is. Not just their show, but virtually every show that was great in the UK then had it's guts shot out when Hollywood tried to re-do it.

Ha! Made you look!!
I'm just a patsy!
LOL yeah it is definitely too long. I just forward through it. Homeland's is too.
Ben: Do you have anything to numb the pain?
Tattoo Guy: Sure, take a scoop out of the pill bucket.
Yeah, I have mixed feelings about the opening. I like how there's the symbolism of the script flying from the UK to Hollywood and then blowing up, but the aesthetics are a bit weird. And it definitely is a bit too long.
A change would be interesting and welcome, but it's perfectly fine if they don't.
I love it.. every second of it. The music, the change from tiny uneven patchwork of fields to huge ones in America up to the through the canyon into hollywood-perfect clouds to hollywood itself where it immediatelly gets shot down...
Even so many comments here show how much truth is in this simple intro.
