Why is this SO expensive??

Not trying to shit on it, I haven't even seen it. But why does this movie or any of Pixar's recent film budgets so freaking HUGE?!

Is it cause they're making their films so "realistic looking"? Surely that's gotta be it. 200 million, not even counting marketing costs is waaay to much

Also, does anybody care that the animation looks so hyper realistic? Genuinely asking..

I might be just a bit old school, but I don't mind cartoons looking like, well, cartoons. I had a blast with Spiderverse & Puss in Boots.

And guess what, their budget was literally half of the pixar offerings.

Probably marketing and the high-quality animation. Neither of the lead actors are particularly well-known. So it can’t be that they demanded a high salary.

It probably wasn't quite that expensive. Major Hollywood studios routinely inflate costs to keep on-the-book profits low or non-existent. Reported budgets are rarely accurate.

Pixars average salary is at least double the one companies like Illumination is paying their employees. It is not just that others are not paying well, but Pixar is producing in high-salary California, Illumination in Paris. Others are producing in Asia or at least other less high-salary places in the US and Europe. So the budget is also heavily impacted because of this.
