Mona foreshadowing

we dont have an exact time like we do with CeCe, but the writers have admitted they didnt know 'until season 2'.

whether this means right in the beginning of season 2, over the hiatus where they (hopefully) had early pitch ideas, or sometime late in the game, were not sure. it feels to me like they didnt have the idea until around 1/3 of the way through the season.

as for foreshadowing, there was a REALLY obvious hint in the halloween special.

>mona was wearing a cat costume
>alison couldnt tell who it was under that costume
>Alison: do i know you?
>Mona: You will....
>Later that night
>alison gets a text from -A
>'dying to know who i am? don't worry, you will..'

pretty clear evidence. other than that the only other real foreshadowing was her sudden importance to teh plot in 2B, before that she wasn't actually around all that much, and of course the show insisting it wasn't her by haivng her be attacked by -A. this is normally a red flag for us, but we were naive at the time, and it was actually pretty well done considering that most of the adults were starting to see or find messages from -A as well.

it was actually pretty well done, and if it had been anyone other than Mona (because she is also -A in the books so we had that knowledge) it would have been pretty genius.

I think most people assumed Mona would be A because she was in the books. I didn't really think of her as a suspect until the Truth Up Day episode.

I think the writers said they always planned for Mona to be A. When Aria gets a text in the Pilot in her classroom, you can see Mona on her phone. There was something about a receipt in one of Mona's shopping bags in 2B in an outside night scene with Spencer that had the same brand of gum as A or something idk something like that.
