I have always been an Emison hater, but lately I have become more accepting. I think in part because I hate all the "ships" and since Emison is new it's something to root for and be excited about. It's hard for me to forgive Alison's past, as I find her behavior sickening and dislike her character.. but at the same time I'm happy for Emily. However I hate that they're pairing together due to rape (if Ali is pregnant with Emily's eggs..)
I think if their storyline were handled better it would be more accepted in general. The writers should've made a better effort to push Emison starting in season 5 after their hookup but it was totally dropped.
The only thing I can agree with is that if they were going to do it then they should have done it already.
But I just can't get on board with them, at all. You know the hate and vitriol that gets thrown at Ezria? Well that's how I feel about Emison. I just think it's horrible and disgusting. Alison, despite clearly having a "soft spot" for Emily was still emotionally abusive to her. She favored Emily the most because Emily bent over backwards at Alison's every command. She thrived on Emily's attention but she never really loved her. Does she regret it? Does she love her now? It's certainly possible. Who can say for sure with PLL. But that doesn't change the fact that Alison irreparably damaged Emily's psyche and had a massive negative affect on her life. To end up with her now (ESPECIALLY if they do that disgusting Emily's eggs in Ali story) to me just says all of that is okay. And it's not. Emily deserves better. But to that end, the same is true of Spoby, Haleb, and Ezria. I guess since the other 3 will end up with toxic people that should have been dumped a long time ago, it's only fair that Emily ends up in a mess too.
The world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters.
Those are my thoughts, too. I have been so against Emison because of the toxicity and yet, ALL OF THE RELATIONSHIPS ARE AWFUL and abusive in their own ways. Just terrible.
Yeah I've accepted all of the endgames. I'm really annoyed with the lack of interest the writers have in Alison's character in general. I noticed that all of her relationships are very one dimensional with ambiguous resolutions and we never get her point of view on anything. I know Emily will be happy because Alison is her dream girl and she can't move on if Alison is an option for her. I'm very disgusted by the pregnancy and I don't like the way they handled everything.
"When life gives you lemons" Jessica D: sleep with their fathers and have secret lemon children
Ah, I envy you! I wish I could accept Emison as endgame, but I really, really can't get on board with them.
I agree that if they'd happened for real in season five, I could have warmed up to the idea and cringed a little less, but it feels so forced now. And my biggest problem with them, regardless of past behavior and problems, is the way that Alison still treats Emily like her last option. If they want to prove to us that Ali has some deep, sincere love for Emily, she needs to start showing attraction/affection toward her all the time, not just when she feels abandoned and in need of comfort. Even as of 7x10, I don't get the impression that Ali truly has feelings for Emily - she just knows that Emily will be there for her when she needs someone to build her up and make her feel better. A relationship is so much more than that.
I think at this point there's no point in not accepting them...just like Ezria they are an eventuality. I get why people hate Emison and are against it, but it seems like they will be thrust together because of this pregnancy, which is foolish in my opinion.
Like others said, they should've been handled back in season five.
Am I the only one who has hope that Ezria may not be endgame? Troian confirmed that she's ending up with either Toby or Caleb in the finale, and it's obviously going to be Toby since the Haleb endgame is inevitable. The Emison endgame is inevitable, too. Not to mention, Ezra found Yvonne in 7x10, and when Jason was in 7A, they really pushed Jaria. I don't know, that seems like the direction they're going in. Maybe it's just me. Or my biased Jaria heart.
Don't. Please don't. Because I want Jaria endgame so badly and for Ezra to just die alone or with Nicole, so to get my hopes up again when I have conceded we'll be stuck with Ezria is just unfair.
I don't truly hate the idea of Emision, just it's fanbase. And I agree that Emision may get a predictable conclusion somehow through this pregnancy setup.

Exactly! And honestly I have nothing against Ali or Emily as friends, I see their genuine friendship and love for each other. However, I don't see it in a romantic sense, it just seems forced and doesn't come across natural. I wish they would keep Ali and Emily good friends, however they are going the direction they intend to go with all the couples.

If they would have worked in Emison properly in season 5, and shown Alison genuinely sorry for how she had behaved, then I might have bought it. But they didn't. I think they're sort of just smashing them together (now kiss!) and making Emily act like all of her character development suddenly didn't happen. Alison acted very weirdly towards Paige, who was just being there and helping. High school was 5 years ago, why would she still hate Paige? And why would Emily be attracted to someone that behaves to childishly, and forget that she was kind of dating someone else (Sabrina)? The whole situation at the moment just reads like bad fanfiction... I also don't understand why they're bringing Paige back just to have Emily throwing her aside for Alison. Why didn't they just let them have their amicable break up in season 5 when Paige left for California and then we could silently assume that Paige moved on with somebody else instead of bringing her back just to have her character crushed? That would make me buy Emison a little bit more but like the situation is being written out it's just annoying me. At the moment it seems like it's not enough for Emison to win, everybody else has to be smashed. So, for the moment, with how the storyline is written out I'm accepting Emison like I would accept taking medicine. I know there's no way around it and that I'll just have to get around to enduring it if I want to see how the series ends.
This is another big Emison issue for me. I kinda think it's disgusting that they're bringing back this age old "feud" to push Emison together. A big part of Paige's character development was getting through how Ali made her feel and becoming happy with herself, which she achieved. And now they're going to bring her back just to crush her with the knowledge that Alison "won". It's so not cool.
The world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters.
I hate that, too. The pandering is just sickening. The way things are looking right now, they're absolutely going to continue to make Paige look like a possessive stalker, just so Ali can chase her away and run into the sunset with Emily. And even though that completely derails Paige's character development and makes Ali look like a huge bitch, the psycho portion of the Emison shippers will go completely insane and bow down, so it's worth it to Marlene.
"How to ruin character development and pander to fans -the I. Marlene King story." My main problem now isn't even that they're not going to make Paige and Emily end up together, or that they're making Emily and Alison end up together. Rather it's the total lack of development surrounding it. It's just popping out of nowhere. We get it, Emily was in love with Alison when she was 15. But that was 8 years ago. A person changes a lot in one third of their lifetime. So, unless there was some major development in Alison and Emily's relationship (so far we've seen zero of that), this is something that should have been just left in the past. To me, Emily moving on from crushing on Alison and actually being with people that reciprocated the affection she had for them was a sign that she wasn't suffering from a low self-esteem brought on by internalized homophobia anymore. By crawling back to Alison when she only wants her when she needs something just scratches away 6 seasons of character development -and Paige's character development along the way if they intend to make her into some creepy stalker.
Yep, I totally agree. It is not healthy to be in love with the same person, who you are not in a relationship with, for eight years. The feeling that Emily has for Ali isn't love. It's infatuation, and I think "The Great Gatsby" showed us all just how that turns out.
I think a great scene in terms of character development for Emily was this scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yz_wAlUYMVw. She's finally come to terms with how toxic her relationship with Alison was, and that she needs to move on and get over her. That would have been a perfect ending for Emison. Emily going through so much, only to end up back with the girl she had an unrequited crush on when she was an insecure fifteen year old, is not character development. It's stagnant and unhealthy.

My feelings exactly. I was such a completely different person 8 years ago that I would hardly recognize that person if we came face to face. If someone that I had an unrequited crush on back when I was a teenager would suddenly show me interest now, without any sort of build up at least, I think I would just quietly back out of the room. I think having such lingering feelings without anything to maintain them or reward them for years is not a sign of love. It's rather a sign of obsession and maybe having made the other person into an idea of love and perfection that everyone else fails to live up to. Realistically if Emily and Alison were to get together I think their relationship would grow stale pretty soon. They only ever seem to exist romantically in one scenario -when Alison is vulnerable or/and needs something from Emily and she feels special by being able to deliver that or/and protecting Alison. You can't roleplay that scenario in a relationship for the rest of your life. But then again I don't even think Emily deserve Paige nor Sabrina at this point. She is being a horrible, inconsistent person to both of them. Her mindless adoration of Alison truly brings out the worst in her.

Okay, are you actually in my head? This is getting creepy, lol.
Honestly though, exactly. The only times Alison ever shows any sort of romantic interest in Emily is when she feels vulnerable and abandoned. And most of the reasons I see as to why Emison should be together all center around Ali's feelings: Emily provides stability for Ali, Emily is always there for Ali, etc.
I mean, I really see what Ali gets out of this relationship, but what about Emily? After the high of finally being in a relationship with the girl of her dreams wears off - which it will - she really doesn't get anything out of it. A healthy relationship doesn't only benefit one partner. Describing their situation as roleplaying is completely right - Ali likes playing the damsel in distress, and Emily likes playing her hero.

Even though Paige was getting a little too possessive in the 7A finale, once she asked Emily "What about what you need?" when referring to Emily always helping Alison I almost yelled "Thank you!" at the screen. That awkward moment when Paige speaks for the audience, or at least a big part of the IMDB board. Most people here seem to dislike Emison (or at least how they have been handled) and to hate Ezria with a passion (I agree with that too -he makes my skin crawl. Remember when Aria was dating other guys and she was actually funny?)

Paige has always been spot on when it comes to Alison. That scene really showcased the problem with Emison. It's so one sided. Emily is constantly blindly defending Ali to anyone who dares to question her motives, never bothering to consider the other side. And she buys right into Ali's precious, defenseless victim thing so easily. "I should really get back," she told Paige, like poor Ali can't even be left alone for five minutes. I just can't believe people don't see how toxic that relationship is.
I do remember! And remember when Aria broke up with Jake, who was nice and hot and her own age AND NOT STALKING HER, just because he fell asleep during a black and white movie?
Oh my god, I know! If not Jason, then Jake was great for Aria- but no. Ezra is her soulmate, end of story.
Emison pisses me off, but it's their fan base more than anything else. Even when the PLL Twitter account post something Haleb or Spoby, or even Ezria related, you get girls replying 'EMISON SEX.' It's irritating. I think Emily needs to move on from Ali. I really do.

That whole breakup was so contrived. "That guy fell asleep over a movie, we should not be together." That guy was training a competitive sport and also working as a trainer. It's amazing that he didn't fall asleep brushing his teeth really. And he was sort of awkward and sweet, like the time that he told Aria that he wanted to take her out to have a steak or something. How she goes back to Ezra when she can have guys like that just amazes me.

Aria's whole character is contrived. The writers are so ridiculous with this idea that Aria is mature because she likes black and white movies. Newsflash Jake doesn't have to like all of the same things as Aria to be mature or to date her. The issue I've always had with Aria's relationships is not even that she always chooses Ezra but she goes out of her way to pursue guys she doesn't want at all. She pursued Jake after they decided to break up only to end things again in a couple of episodes. Andrew was another example of it and I'm still baffled that they stuck him with Aria instead of Spencer but I digress. It's for the best that Aria ends up with Ezra because she's going to cheat on him as soon as she gets bored in the relationship per her usual, make a bold romantic declaration so they can reconcile, and have sex with him when she's supposed to be helping her friends or something important. Aria's depth and personality are written so artificially that I can't take her alleged passion for anything seriously.

The biggest reason I didn't want Paige back was because of how she would be used. A last ditch spring board to propelling Emison into fruition. It's ridiculous that her character is being used this way. Especially since Paige's character arc was done and over.

Agreed. If she's not going to be with Emily, then why bring her back only to make her character backtrack from all the progress that she made in the last 5 series?

It's upsetting for sure. The writers have always disliked Paige so I'm sure they're loving this storyline. She was the best written love interest on the show.

The writers actually do like Paige BUT marlene ships Emison and has decided to strip Alison to a shell of her former self.
She was a much more interesting character when she was dead, and being "evil" when she returned (having Noel attack Hanna's mom for example).
Joseph absolutely loves writing Paige and Paily. He has made no secret of it. Jonell has expressed her love for them as well. Only ones that are more Emison are Maya and Lijah. Of course they thin Ezria is not a flawed/f'd up couple.
