Do you think the cast is embarrassed to be a part of the show?

Money aside, do you?

reply

I don't think they're embarrassed, but I do think they want the show to be over.

Why should they? It's a hit show and they get a lot of attention. They wouldn't be nearly as popular/known without the show.

popularity and fame isnt always the endgame (though this day it mostly is). a lot of actors are ashamed or at the very least embarassed by projects they've been on but had to do. supposedly the guy who played the father on the brady bunch thought the whole thing was beneathe him, but needed to take the job.

as for me, i think some of htem might be embarrassed, others not so much. the actresses can do a lot with what they got. its the lower level writers i feel the worst for.

That's a good point. They've made a good amount of money, connections and achieved a good level of fame to help them get more projects. The lower writers will hopefully go onto big and better things but it's not guaranteed because they don't get the name recognition.

the problem with the lower level writers is its hard to know whats theirs and whats not, and it can make it hard for others to take them seriously.

when you look at troian or benson you know they are not responsible for the words themselves, but how they react to them, and they have reacted (or acted) really well wiht what they got.

whereas the lower level writers get very little say in what happens in the show, or even in an episode, so the outline they are handed for an episode, made by the 'team' as a whole, does not reflect their true potential, or is often times the exact opposite of what they'd do.

but their names on it and theres very little they can do to change things for the better.

Would Troian direct an episode if she felt embarrassed?

reply

yes. thats like asking if they would have renewed their contracts if they were embarrassed, and many actors do. this is her opportunity to get a major credit outside of acting and once you do it once it becomes insanely easy to do it again. she may not direct future episodes of PLL but she can direct on other shows and becomes a lot easier to get passed around from show to show once you start.

Geez Bobby, you sound a bit condescending. But it makes sense.

reply

rereading that, it does sound condescending, and i apologize for that, did not intend it that way.

It's okay bob! I figured you didn't mean it like that! It's hard to get the point sometimes via text. We're all family here so I love you Bobby :)

reply

i totally see it now, feel embarassed tbh. i use the phrase 'thats like...' to illustrate parallels a lot, but in text and especially the way i used it here it can sound hella condescending. i have a similar issue with saying 'good for you' which i use completely unironically and (especially in text) it gives the impression that im belittling whats happening.

thanks for understanding 👍

Of Course! No hate. No worries.

the guy who plays ezra has a girlfriend who is a really serious artist, I am sure he must be wanting to do something more worthwhile and intellectual.

reply

No. It's a hit show. It has/will open up lots of opportunities for them. Some of them have probably made what will be lifelong friendships from this show. They all have received many of their fans from this show. They are professionals that made a contractual commitment and have honored that.

There is nothing to be embarrassed about. They are not in charge of the writing. As a matter of fact I still love this show. The friendship of the four girls has always been the most significant thing for me.

reply

I don't think they're embarrassed but they've realized how much the show has fallen in quality. I think they all want the stories to be better than what they have been.

I don't know about embarrassed. Of what really? How their show has been progressing? As long as the cast are getting treated with respect by fans and crew or respected the work, I don't see why *there would be any personal concerns.

Maybe underwhelmed with the direction of this series? Despite the show still running longer, they are probably are aware of the show's decline and wish that it could've been better in the process. They could also be tired since the cast wanted the show to be over.

I think even though it's been badly written, PLL has showcased a lot of their talents well. It's clear to anyone watching that Troian, Lucy, Tyler, and Sasha are all talented actors/actresses that should be taken seriously. The others have had some moments to shine as well. Lucy has been ripped off material-wise but her good moments have really stuck with me as proving she can handle herself.

reply

I guess I'm the only one who thinks yes, they're embarrassed. Troian and Ashley act like PLL is beneath them. Once the show ends they'll probably NEVER want to talk about it again. I think they're thankful for the doors its opened for them, but if they weren't on this show, would they watch it? Probably not.

reply

No, I think they ultimately recognize the show's flaws because fans are vocal and also they aren't vision-impaired or hearing impaired, but at the end of the day, they get paid to hang out together all day long. If someone paid you to hang out with your friends all day and read from a script a simpleton wrote, how embarrassed would you feel? Personally I'd be stoked.
