when i first saw it i thought it might be lame but i get a feeling it'll be nice. i think the appeal for me is the idea of childhood fears, that nostalgic horror. love that stuff.

this ones a long in depth read but it details why you shoudl watch them to better help you decide:

my favorite is nightmare on elm street but you know... everyone knows to try that one. I haven't been watching any new ones lately but heres my general recommendation list of hte more obscure

blindness: whole world goes blind except for one woman. shenanigans ensue. technically a drama, but dark as *beep*. careful a few scenes are hard to watch.

'would you rather': basically saw without the stylization and not nearly as gorey. they do terrible things but most of that hapens just off camera in terms of the gore. hard to watch. two 'twists' at the end of this movie. you can see one of them coming a mile away. and thats what makes it so hard to watch tbh. stars that orange haired hot chick from glee.

'monsters': very low budget monster film, but the CGI is on point. dont watch the sequel, das dumb. its basically about a reporter, and a wannabe reporter, who get stuck in south america YEARS after the giant alien monsters have landed and the worlds already settled back into its routine, and dealing with them almost indifferently.

'v/h/s': is an anthology film series, but the anthologies within the film all connect in a slight way. the mini films get crazier and crazier as the series progresses. the third film wasnt that good if i remember correctly. first two have some great ones though, worth a watch.

'the host' an amazing monster film from south korea. one of the highest budget horror films of south korea of all time (30 mil). whats amazing is they dont rely on darkness or offscreen ideas to scare you. they show this monster in the light of day *beep* *beep* up and you still get spookled. a bit over the top on some of its commentary about americans, but i highly recommend it.

'the mirror' is an okay film, what really hooks you though is that the lead actress looks a LOT like Troian, and acts a lot like spencer was. it felt like i was watching some weird pretty little liars fan film. not bad.

'after' not entirely scary but an amazing film. it feels entirely like 'silent hill' the games, so if ur a fan of that, watch it. two people crash on a bus. when they wake up, they find the entire city vanished, with a wall of mist surrounding the town, and slowly closing in. (side note, no, they arent dead). this story is beautifully told, and beautifully shot. it lacks the true creep and suspense factor, but i cant recommend it enough

'Timelapse': a bit silly at first, but once you're in, you're in. three young adults find a machine that can take a picture 24 hours into the future. they obviously use this to win some gambling money, but as you can imagine they start seeing weirder and weirder stuff.

'circle' is a sci fi film. 50 people abducted by aliens and put in a circle in a room. anyone who moves automatically dies. every two minutes, they have to vote for someone to die. everyone from little kids, to old men. amazing commentary on the american political system really. also just creepy and thrilling. the ending makes you wonder.

The Descent was a great film and terribly underrated. Group of friends go into a cave to "explore" and get lost..

Trick 'R Treat

The Ring

The Blair Witch Project - I wouldn't technically call it horror but it's very creepy and atmospheric..

Martyrs - the original but Troian Bellisario is in the remake so it's probably worth watching just for her

The Orphanage

Halloween (1978) is and will always be my favorite horror movie of all time. Scream, Scream 2, The Silence of the Lambs, Psycho (1960), and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) deserve honorable mentions.
I don't watch too many horror TV shows, but I really enjoy Scream and Slasher. I also watch Scream Queens, but I consider that comedy.
The Twilight Zone is awesome, too.

One of my favorite movies period is All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. It's a suspenseful thriller-slasher. Very underrated movie, IMO, and I think PLLers would really like it.

Movies

The Descent 1 and 2
Stephen King’s It
Scream
The First Power
Let the Right One In
Interview with the Vampire
Pan’s Labyrinth
The People Under the Stairs
Final Destination
Sleepy Hollow

TV

Stranger Things
Sleepy Hollow
Are You Afraid of the Dark?
Goosebumps
Master's Sun (K-Drama)
Teen Wolf
Vampire Diaries
iZombie
(the last three don’t really count)

Tbh, I’m not much of a horror fan anymore. I like campy horrors, like Fright Night (1985) or horror themed shows with humour/drama, like Supernatural.

But my favourite movie to watch on Halloween is Hocus Pocus.

reply

I forgot about Sleepy Hallow, I enjoy Hocus Pocus too.

I'm not much of a horror movie fan myself lately, but I did seen some of the shows and movies listed. Then there are the others I would add:

Movies:
The Shining
Psycho
The Sixth Sense
The Babadook
The Fly (80s remake)
Carrie
Poltergeist
The Blair Witch Project
Child’s Play
Twilight Zone: The Movie (last two segments)
Insidious (haven't seen the sequels yet)

Shows:
Can't really think of much on shows except...

AHS
Scream
Scream Queens (sorta)
Dead of Summer is alright
Elvira's anthology series (syndication runs)
The Twilight Zone
