When did the normal teenage stuff stop happening?

In the earlier seasons we always used to see some random scene of the Liars (Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily) talking about high school homework, boys, college, family stuff etc. instead of always talking about Alison or A but when did that stop? Around after Maya was killed right?

I think it was rather around the time that Toby was revealed to be helping A. Then it became personal for Spencer and after that there didn't seem to be a lot of time free to talk about normal high school stuff.

i actually made a post detailing this in another thread recently.

the reason the first two seasons worked so well was that they focused on childhood, including highschool. season 3 was a 'transitional' season. they still had some of the childhood stuff but less and less as it went on. by season 4 the liars were more or less adults and it was ridiculous.

I wondered if the introduction of Ravenswood has caused this shift in tone for season 4.

Shift in tone how?

reply

A little shift in tone for the characters to behave less like teenagers along with the introduction of darker and more mature themes. The spin-off was in the works around that time too.
