For the ones who had no idea who "A" was from the books, did you have a surprised reaction when you found out who "A" was in the Season 2 finale?
shareI was shocked. I predicted her being A when Spencer and her were in the car driving to the lair. Honestly I feel the 'Mona's Alive' twist was better, But both are great!

i had not read the books at that time, but i was aware of the twist as someone had spoiled it for me. so im hardlyr a great judge for this.
however I will say that the shows twist still lacked any meaning. virtually nothing was answered other than who. the motive was what anyones motive would be: hating Alison, which isn't a good mystery.
at least in the books they stepped back to tie it into the jenna thing and reveal that Mona was burned in the fire that blinded JEnna and thats part of the reason she wants revenge.

IIRC, she was also pissed because they "stole" Hanna away from her...but the only reason they really became close again was because of A (Mona) so realistically she has no one to blame but herself for that...even though Hanna and Mona were still friends (both before and eventually after Mona was revealed as A)
OT: That's my favorite episode of the entire series to date.
I didn't read the books but someone spoiled it for me. I really didn't think they'd go with Mona because she was sort of a minor character at time. There were clues leading up to the reveal that it was her but I always brushed them off cause I never thought they'd do it. I was RAGING angry after the finale!!! I was mad for months and eventually got over it (and now I think it's great).

I suspected her of being "A" at the very beginning, but then my suspicions completely disappeared. In season 2, I didn't even consider the fact she could be "A". Not a single time I thought "she still could be/might be A". So, when she was revealed, I was completely shocked.
