Was Toby originally supposed to have been killed off in S3B?

I have a question in S3B when Toby was found dead by Spencer in the woods, was that originally supposed to have been his dead body and that it got rectonned to please the Spoby stans?

reply

I am not sure, I know that Keegan and Marlene have a very good relationship and she loves his character so that might have kept her from killing him off the show. I don't know if it was to please Spoby fans, if so I don't mind that much because it is nothing like what is happening now. Emison being shoved at us like it is something we are supposed to just accept is way worse then her keeping Toby around.

As far as I know that was always intended to be a fakeout.

He WAS actually supposed to die in season 1 when his motorcycle crashed but Marlene loves Keegan so she changed her mind.

^Yep. The only thing that would've been different in 3B and 4A was Spencer being on the A Team for more than one episode. I still can't believe they did an Ezra fakeout right after the Toby one.

absolutely not. when PLL intends for someone to actually be dead they show the body.

showing a fake tattoo and a helmet and not bothering to show who it was pretty much proved he was alive from the get go. the intent was only to make spencer think he was dead, not the audience.

they also wouldnt be able to produce that kind of story change. the episodes are all filmed way before they actually air, so the fans could not react and say 'wahhhh poor toby' in time for them to change it. the network sometimes gets involved though, but they would have gotten involved at the script reading point not after it already happened.

i like to think he was intended to die in season 4. Spencer would have had her dark arc being -A and realizing that losing her friends wasnt worth having toby, and she would have ended up killing him in the 4A or 4B finale to save the girls.

No, the amount of time between that episode and the next episode where Toby is alive would have been shot too closely together for fans to have had any influence on how that played out.
The only thing about Toby that was possible to be retconned due to fan reaction was him being A. Their was enough time for fans to see the episode and complain before they filmed the reveal that he did it to "protect" Spencer.
