OT: Fences

anyone see this yet? its pretty *beep* good. you ahve to keep in mind it is an adaption of a play so its lacking cinematics, particularly early on. The ending itself is a bit meh, felt like the writer wasn't sure how to drive his points home, however the points he makes up until then are more than making up for it.

beautifully written, each character represents an aspect of Denzel's character. I don't want to spoil anything but every time he makes a 'deal' with someone, an agreement, even in a positive way, it further dehumanizes his relationships and you can imagine where that goes.

I've heard amazing things about the film and play and the cast is nothing short of spectacular so I"m looking forward to seeing it. I need to watch this movie and Hidden Figures ASAP.

hidden figures didn't look like my cup of tea, but if you enjoy a good heartbreak id recommend 'a monster calls'.

lots of sad movies lately, glad im finally seeing a horror this week.

What horror are you watching? I want to see the new Underworld too. What do you think of LaLaLand from seeing the previews or if you've seen the movie? I hear great things about it but I'm particularly interested in watching a musical at the moment and I"m not big fans of the lead actors.

im seeing 'bye bye man' today. the trialer didn't look amazing, but after seeing nothing but oscar bait for the last month straight, im ready for it.

i saw it with my friend, its actually really good. i dont usually like romance or musicals, but tihs one did pretty well. its hard to REALLY call it a musical. its more like a movie that has singing imo. the music is used to to seperate 'fantasy' from reality so while its heavy at first it becomes virtually non existent later and then kinda jumps back again.

im not a fan of the actors either tbh, I actually thought that given its content the movie would have been better done by some up and comers or unknowns, but it is oscar bait so...

one thing i should mention is that its a VERY la film. its kinda like 'bojack horseman' in the way that its made specifically for people in LA and even more specifically for people in the industry. It makes a point to use as much 'HEY THATS IN LA!!!' moments as possible and it tugs at the dreams of wannabe actors and really anyone trying to make it in film, so all in all im hearing not a lot of people outside of los angeles like it.
