Unrealistic

This movie was good, but i find it very unrealistic that that manynolder teenaged kids would not defend themselves or leave. It just does't wash. They were not toddlers, they were nearly grown, so not very realistic. They could easily have defendednthemselves, and had the opportunity to just bail. And that the other siblings did nothing while the sister was chained to the shower was just unrealistic. Sorry.

Too bad it happened.

Sometimes the difference between self-amusement and self-actualization is less than you think.

Not really. It was very loosely based on the true story. The film's timeline and many plot points never happened. The stuff that did happen was changed quite a bit for the film. And most inmortantly, the brother, sister, and mother did not die in the end. The real-life mother is currently in prison today, aged 70. The remaining daughter passed away in 2011. And two other brothers remain alive, after the one (as depicted in this film) received lenient prison time by testing against his evil mother.

This actually happened. And do you not understand abuse? Especially if it's coming from the parents and has been happening a while, they don't know any better or are petrified.
