One of Matthew McConaughey's Top 5 Favorite Films!

The Master (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2012; 85% Tomatometer)

A fictional screenplay with fictional characters made so well that it felt like a biographical nonfiction drama, like a considerately staged documentary. Identity of place and people. I could smell and taste it.

The man has spoken.

On a related note, Paul Thomas Anderson, in a recent talk with Martin Scorsese about The Wolf of Wall Street, had kind words for Mcconaughey's performance in that film. Here's hoping PTA casts him in one of his future projects. I'm sure we can all agree that the results would be brilliant.

Great movie, even better second time around.Joaquin Phoenix is amazing in this film,His face says so much, incredible.Love the way he stands hands on hips. Also sometimes get a strong Daniel Plainview vibe.Good to see Matthew McConaughey likes movie, because even just based on the strength of this performance alone I think Joaquin Phoenix would be perfect for True Detective Season 2.

Hah, yeah, a lot of people want to see Joaquin Phoenix star in True Detective Season 2. It's a big work commitment though -- 6 months -- and one wonders if he has that kind of time and/or is willing to spend it on one project. I know he's got a Woody Allen film in the pipeline.

The most on-fire actor in the world saying The Master is his favorite movie of the past 10 years, and one of his favorite movies of all-time is significant.

Not least of which because it means he wants to work with this director.

But also because he recognizes what a towering achievement this film is. It's the kind of movie that rewards great thought and a second viewing.

In what world is Matthew McConaughey considered a random actor? . He just won the Oscar this year. Give him more credit.

reply

Why should i hold his opinion as more important than anyone else? because he can act? i bet he cant jugle spreadhseets like i do, should he take life lessons from me for me being good at my job too?

If he had to judge how good someone is at juggling spreadsheets, he'd do well to consider your advice.

Likewise, if you want to judge how good a film is, you'd do well to consider one of the current best screen actors in the world's immense adoration of that film. The main reason his choice of roles have been so exceptional in the past few years -- ever since breaking away from typecast -- is because he obviously has a strong eye for telling a great film from a weak one.

God, McConaughey sounds like a pretentious douche. Just read it in his voice and it's...ugh.

reply

Lol. Man can turn in quite a performance in the right hands, at least.
