Great film - thought the pov was interesting
I thought it was interesting that Joaquin Phoenix was the main character, but we view him as really being a background character to Dodd and the Cause. Like, the film could be about the Cause itself - and it's like we're looking at photos of this movement and Phoenix is just this person who is frequently in the pictures in the background. And that's what we are watching. It's like Anderson was looking at a photograph like that and asked, "What's that guys story in this religious-like movement?"
Really great film though. Want to see more like it. Looking for recommendations that are non-documentary about religious (or similar) movements. The religions that stem from the Millerites at the end of the 19th century, or religions like Mazdaznan or some short lived religions and cults that formed in the 1970's and 80's. Really interesting stuff.
