I haven't seen the movie, but definitely planning to when it comes out--but I was just watching one of the trailers and it goes like--she's signing country for the fame--and he's singing it for the music...and then there's a part when Garrett's character is in the dressing room with Leighton's character, and he's all serious, telling her- "if you want to continue making country POP music than so be it--but you are so much more than that.....blah blah blah"
And I was just thinking about this girl reminds me so much of that Taylor Swift girl. I mean there are sooo many country artists out there, and that are soo underrated and very much talented--and then there's Taylor Swift--who's great and all--looks like a sweet girl and has a great voice--but shes like everywhere and so sudden. Singing pop country music and all.
I mean did this not remind anyone else of Taylor Swift? Like I don't mean to offend any of her fans, or anything but she is a little overrated...with the grammies and all. Do you think there's a possibility that the writer dedicated Leighton's character to her. I read somewhere that Gwyneth's character is based off like Britney Spears or something.

No plenty of other Country Singers who have gone Pop over the years. Leann Rimes, the Dixie Chicks, Carrie Underwood to name a few. The line to me is about how Country has become more pop. Not a particular singer.
And one question for you. How does winning grammys make you overrated?
You see where I come from, being overrated is people saying someone is great. But that same someone have no trophies to back it up.
Like say Britney Spears. One of the biggest selling artist of all time. Her fans swear she's the best. Yet she's never won a Grammy for her music. Now that is overrated.
Okay that makes sense..country music has turned quite popish.
But what I meant about Taylor Swift winning a Grammy makes her overrated is that, being that a Grammy is something really huge--especially for the particular award she won (Best New Artist) and that's just totally ridicules! She won! And I know ALOT of people that would agree with me here by saying that there were other new artists that year that were extremely better-with great new material, yet the award still went to Taylor Swift...I mean just because she had more exposure on television with her music videos, that doesn't make her a BETTER artist than the rest--she isn't that great of a musician anyways. Just basically strums the same chords over and over on her guitar. Plus she has an average voice with mediocre writing that mainly is about boys and what not, but since she captures lots of tween attention with her sparkly prom dresses, catchy choruses, cute creative music videos and this overly innocent-vanilla persona, she has been capable of fooling the general masses into thinking that she's like this TALENTED-precious pearl to the music industry. And what pisses me off is that they're probably TONS of other female musicians out there--that aren't from like Pennsylvania--but from the actual South and have better material...they're just not that lucky, they may not be all that gorgeous like Taylor or skinny, so they don't have the chance to get out there and show the world what they have. People have to seriously do some digging in there to discover these other artists, you know?
IDK. But then again, I'm one of the few people that isn't into the mainstream (TOP 40 CHARTS) music of today. I'm not fan of singles that are overly played in the radio... So I don't really pay much attention to these artist--I mean there are many artist in the mainstream business that are extremely talented of course, like The Black Keys and Eminem-to name a few from other categories...but Taylor Swift just isn't one of them. At least that's my opinion (as well as many others too.)

I hate to break it to you. But she never won a grammy for (Best New Artist). Amy Winehouse won that year, and we all know what she did with it.
So basically your crying about her winning an award that she never actually won.
Sorry but can't really take you seriously anymore. That right there prove you have no clue what your complaining about.

Lol that's true, well I guess that goes to show how I don't even really watch the Grammies since it had gotten downhill and it's complete garbage ...but she did win some thing that was completely ridicules and over the top. I'm guessing its the album of the year or something..I don't know...but I'm positive that she was nominated for like 8 or 10 grammies whatever, which makes her even more overrated. And I think many people would agree with me with my opinion and points on her, and she's totally generic and over exposed...just plain rubbish.
And to be honest, I don't care if you take me serious or not. This thread isn't about me, and I'm not here to prove myself to ANYONE--I'm not even complaining about anything for that matter, I just wanted to share my thoughts on how Leighton's character reminded me of Taylor Swift...That's all. You asked me why I thought Taylor was overrated--and I obviously offended you since you're pretty much a fan that's getting a little worked up over a couple of words I shared. But its nothing serious. And you're not breaking anything to me...you actually made me smile since it reminded me of how Amy Winehouse is like a perfect example of an AMAZING artist. And yes, it's a shame that shes been putting all that talent into a waste, but regardless of that, she has an amazing voice and capable of writing great lyrics--and even though Taylor Swift might be a sweet girl, and great role model for the teens and tweens, that still doesn't make her any better as an artist.
BTW--here's some links on what overrated means, since where you come from; they obviously have no clue on what the word actually means.
A Grammy is still a Grammy, which you said she had none. And Britney does write her own music and compose her own tunes; like Me Against the Music, or slower songs with more meanings like Everytime, Someday and Let Go. Do some research before you bash.
The only way to a person's heart is through their chest.
Yeah when I watched the trailer I thought of Taylor Swift aswell, I don't mind Taylor Swift although I wish she could find something else to write about other than boys. And in my area her songs get overplayed on the radio wayyyy too much, so I usually end up getting tired of her songs pretty quickly. But overall dont mind her.
Oh cool, I didn't even notice it. I was actually searching through threads before posting mine so I wouldn't have to repeat the topic lol I guess I missed it.
But yeah...that definitely makes alot more sense, since pop country isn't necessarily bad. If anything, it's just a type of genre in music, like indie. But the whole Prom Queen is much clearer now, and it even fits Taylor Swift in so much more ways than before. It just has to be reference to her, don't you still think so?

Taylor Swift even dresses like a prom queen during her performances. I can't really think of anyone else who really fits that description.
Personally, I don't find her appealing at all (I think she's really only as popular as she is because she is a cute blond girl) and the overplay of her songs on the radio just makes it annoying (I wouldn't mind if she weren't everywhere). I don't think she sings, she carries a tune but she is just saying her words and there is like no inflection in her voice. And they're all about the same thing. I am not a country fan, I don't know anything about it except that there is like a country music award show every month or something. I don't like the pop country stuff. However, I realized that when I listen to music that is inspired by older country-folk songs I like it a lot. I don't know if you listen to her, but if you listen to Jenny Lewis' solo albums, it is definitely inspired by country and I can definitely hear it and it sounds really good.
lol so true. I agree with every single word you said. But that was really deep, I never really paid attention to that, but you are so right. I definitely see that pattern now, and it's so pathetic.

You could say the same thing about country rock or rockability. Many people wishes they were never invented. What I am saying is so what if they sing country "pop" as long as the song sound good and have maybe a good message to it. Plus if pop can be influenced by country so can vice versa. I remember one male DJ say he doesn't mind country influencing pop but he will never play pop influenced country on his radio station. Can you say pot meet keetle or hyprocrisy. By the way the dixie chicks didn't play pop country but almost pure bluegrass country(except for the drum). Yet people from mainly the "country" south(ironic since they started the traitorus confederacy) bash them for bashing Bush. Everyone who read me on imdb knows I am pretty conservative and love country music. Don't tell me that slavery had nothing to do w/ the confederacy. Are you going to quote the reactionary "historian" Thomas E. Woods. The same guy who started the League of the South-which wanted to restrict voting rights to only white males w/ property(racists to me).
Country music has been mostly pop rock - with a twang - for a long time. I've never heard Taylor S sing, but she looks like a doll. A living doll - plastic looking skin, blank, smiley facial expression... such a turn-off - I don't even want to hear her sing.
