am i the only one who accepted the ending? *SPOILERS*

I thought the ending fit. Her husband clearly cared more about putting her on a stage instead of loving her and making sure she was healthy. Yet, once he finally realized how much loved her, it was too late. He pulled her out of rehab before she was ready. She also used her remaining day for good. She helped Chiles by giving her advice about her career but also pretty much told her not to make the same mistake she did, putting fame before love, and not to be afraid to fall in love either. She said the same thing about love to Beau. She helped both of them see things clearly. And she also made her big comeback performance in Dallas. She really pretty much summons up her life when she sings "Coming Home."

I thought it was a very moving and touching, though sad, ending. Even though Beau and Chiles did end up together, which was happy of course.

I really loved this movie a lot. The music(ima HUGE country fan), the acting, the story. One of my new favorite films.

I totally agree. I do think there was some unfortunate editing on this film. One of the deleted scenes indicated that James originally called her "Dove", but no longer did. A later scene had him call her "Dove", but the significance of that was lost because of the earlier scene being cut.

You're not the only one. I accepted the ending as it was. Kelly could not get over the guilt of what she did - basically killing her own child. The self destruction and ultimiate suicide was the only option for her.

However, I wish they would have wrapped up the baby bird story. I get the symbolism, but after James mentioned he had to go back to the bar to pick up the chick, it's never brought up again. I thought for sure the bird was going to meet its demise at the hands of Kelly.

Tigerlilly9, the DVD has the original ending as one of the extras, and that shows that James apparantly gave the bird to Beau and Beau has it with him when he's driving off from the funeral.

The ending was a heartbreaker, but I loved it. I agree w/ everything stated above, Kelly just couldn't go on anymore, she couldn't make her husband love her which despite affairs was what she wanted most, nor could she get over the death of her baby. She did Dallas to prove to everyone she could do it, and go out on top; and I liked that she gave the advice to Chiles & Beau before she left. I thought Chiles would choose fame, but was happily surprised when she goes to Beau at the end (w/o all her make-up too!) Really good film; and I loved the music too.

I "got" the ending as well. And I thought it was brave for Gwennyth Paltrow to take that role (and for that matter for Tim McGraw to take the role of her husband in the movie) because the true stars of the movie were Hedlund and Meester (whose character was Chiles Stanton, initials "C.S." same as "Country Strong").

And a lot of musicians would agree with the movie's premise that the big stadium shows basically destroy the stars. Sure, the adulation is great, but it just separates them from reality. I wonder what Roger Waters would think of Country Strong ...

My only problem with the ending is that one would think a title like "country strong" would show some struggling and overcoming and then winning in the end, rather than a character who falls apart and kills herself.

She died "strong"? I mean, she seemed to have gotten it all together at the end having just done that one successful show in Dallas, and she was sober when she died. So at least she went out with a bang ;)

You can't be sober if you die from an overdose...

The ending was ok...I just found it to be completely out of left field.

I thought she would play the Dallas show and then they would give up the business completely and try to work on the marriage and having another baby.

I didn't expect.....that...

But it was an alright movie overall. I'm not a country music fan at all really...but I liked the music.

ITA. I also thought the ending was very fitting. Anything else would have been a cop out (re: Kelly) and would not have been believable.

I loved the movie. I was very surprised since I don't like Country music, but I loved the music in this movie. Really loved that all the actors did their own singing.

Totally weird though that Tim McGraw is the only actual Country singer and he doesn't sing in the movie. I loved the song with him and gwyneth during the credits.
