I was watching this movie yesterday and thought it was booring, but there was a part where one of the characters says something to the fact that the girl was going to be as famous as Townes Van Zandt and then she asks who is he?. I was pretty surprised to see she didn't know who TVZ was, but then the guy says that Townes was famous only in some circles.

My main point is that I thought Townes Van Zandt was a Country music icon, or that every country fan knew him for that matter, guess I was wrong. Too bad cause he is one of my favorites.

i think that was the point he was trying to make... Chiles was interested in being famous and songs that would get her on the radio, so she was elated to be compared to Carrie Underwood who is more mainstream rather than TVZ who may be an icon but isn't as widely known outside of the country demographic.
