No huge twists in the plot, nevertheless I really liked it. I'm a sucker for a good love story and love good music in just about any movie I love. It's worth seeing. Well put together. Great music (though I'm not default country music lover) and it's combined with great acting!
Same here (except that ending really threw me and was a twist in my book). I’m not really a country music fan at all but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It’s a superb character driven film that goes way beyond any musical persuasion. It's well worth seeing to be sure.
I thought the final scene was definitely better than the original ending scene in the DVD extras, but am a bit sorry the bird in the box wasn't shown as it was in the original ending scene.

Underdeveloped love story between Chiles and Beau. Unaddressed relationship issues between Kelly and James as well as Kelly and Beau.
Well put together.
Poorly edited with no plot or character development. Beau goes from being Kelly's protector to sleeping with Chiles? James continually states how strong Kelly is but we see nothing to that effect or to what happened that led her to drinking or why he let her drink while 5 months pregnant. Chiles seems to dislike Beau quite a bit but somehow shows up at his room for sex? Where was TMZ during Kelly's drunken bar performance?
Great music
Gwenyth was overpowered by the band. I could barely make out what she was sining in the title track in the film. Hedlund was a nice suprise and he had the best tracks on the album. I did love Hedlund and Meester's duet.
combined with great acting
Hedlund was again the suprise, it was nice seeing Meester outside of her GG role. McGraw was passable though this was not his best performance. Same for Gwenyth. I never really bought her alcoholic act or felt much for the character.

Awesome breakdown. I appreciate complex characters, but these were just plain inconsistent and poorly written. The relationship between Beau and Chiles was a ridiculously contrived one that evolved(?) over a matter of days and couldn't possibly have been love, especially given the fact that for 3/4 of the movie they appeared to hate each other. And yes, talk about ambiguity when it came to Kelly and James! I was so frustrated with their "He loves me, he loves me not" routine that was supposed to interest me but actually just annoyed the hell out of me. This was one of those movies in which there were basically no likeable characters, and you couldn't become invested in any of them or care about them because they were so inconsistent and unbelievable.
And on an extremely unrelated, shallow note: Beau, if you can't grow a beard, don't bother trying. Scraggly and spotty is NOT attractive.
I enjoyed it as well. Solid cast, great story, excellent originial songs... the only part I didn't like was the ending. I just don't understand why Kelly felt she needed to kill herself. It was so weak and selfish of her, and the movie is called Country STRONG after all.
"My dad went out to get the candles for my 4th birthday lasagna and never came back."
I found the whole movie a slam on the pseudo-fascism of big music of any stripe. Roger Waters of Pink Floyd hit the same theme 30 years ago with "The Wall." Hence, given the movie's take on the big stadium shows, I thought the ending was inevitable. She was singing about "strength" but the whole business crushed her.
One of the saddest scenes in the movie was the fifty foot projection of her _weeping_ as she tried to sing "I'm a fighter" with two big American flags dropped for effect along the sides. You can't sing honestly about life when the stage is set for Mussolini.
I loved it. I thought the four leads were strong. Each character was interesting. The romantic entanglements kept me involved. The acting was good. My only beef with the movie is that they left out so much! I wanna see like a Lonesome Dove soap opera version of this movie. I thought the Kelly character was so addicting to watch. I wanted to know more about her. I wanted more backstory, and I feel like the ending was totally rushed. That was what upset me the most.
Just like you, I also think each character brings in a unique dimension to the story. Yes I was also drawn to Kelly. Wish they could've explored more of her. The ending really took me by surprise - I really didn't see it coming, but I felt the impact her character made on the younger musicians (Beau and especially Chiles). All in all, it was an enjoyable movie. Very simple but exceeded my expectations.
just saw it online, gotta say some threads here had me iffy if it was worth a look or not, but i like gwyneth, tim mcgraw don't care for the young cast but they were ok i liked the movies, loved the songs, the music made it very enjoyable, i admit i can be a cynic sometimes so listening to "come into me" i was like uh-huh, still i giggle as i thought would a guy really bother doing all that just to get a girl, still that's country music for ya!!!
it was an entertaining film, was it oscar worthy ? no! the acting wasnt all that but the story kept it together, and well i see nothing wrong ,all young actors gotta start somewhere if they wanna make it to their point B, career wise, so maybe leighton isnt all that good right now but if she's serious who knows! gwyneth was really beautiful in this film, and i was surprised at how good her singing voice is, i have not watched glee ever so couldnt tell from that, and i can see where a record deal might be worth the risk, will it pay off we'll she did seem a bit awkward on stage but maybe that was in character!
Definitely was pleasantly surprised by this movie! I was sold immediately on the cast alone, inspite of the fact that I am not a country music fan at all.
Heard negative reviews so I wasn't expecting too much, but I loved every minute of it. The cast was fantastic! I adore Leighton Meester (big Gossip Girl fan!) and she completely stole the show in my opinion. Her character was a lot different then how I thought she'd be! Really loved her in this movie! Garrett was fantastic (as always, LOVED him in Friday Night Lights!)
I have always loved Gwyneth and this movie was no exception! She was beautiful and I really cared for her! Pretty much anytime Gwyneth cries on screen, my heart shatters! She's wonderful!
Overall a great movie that I really enjoyed. Will probably be buying this on DVD!
I'm glad to find I'm not the Lone Ranger...I'm not the only one who thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I will agree with the poster who felt the editing was poor, but otherwise, I found it a strong movie with good performances from the four principle characters.

Nine of us in my apartment complex watched it Friday night. Four walked out before the end, but those of us who stayed really liked it and discussed it afterwards.
