So that central song, Going Home (SPOILER)

...or "Coming Home", or whatever it's called:

How did it get switched over to Paltrow performing it at the end, when the writer said in the recording booth he wanted the younger singer to do it...and we later see her recording it?

(I wasn't crazy about this film, and skipped through a few scenes, where this must have been covered.)

Thank you!

I don't think it was discussed, but Kelly knew it would be her last performance and loved the song. The band knew it (if for no other reason than to play it when Chiles was on stage) and she performed it, knowing it would be her Swan Song.

"Oh, please, just shut up. You're wounding my soul!"

I just watched the movie and was wondering the same thing! You didn't miss a clue to this unless it was filmed and then edited out before the release. My guess is that Kelly decided to sing it anyway even without the writer's permission; she wasn't worried about legal repercussions since she was planning on...

I don't want to reveal the other spoiler, however, if you saw the entire movie, then you know what I'm talking about.

The reason she's singing Coming Home at the end is not addressed anywhere. I guess we have to assume that either they have given the song back to her or she's decided to just play it anyway. I think the first one makes more sense because otherwise Chiles would have already played the song earlier in the evening.
