Garrett Hedlund steals the film!

As much as this is a great showcase for a surprising turn for Gwyneth Paltrow, I really feel Hedlund- as Beau Hutton- steals this film from everyone!
He is very charismatic and great with his own singing. His character turns out having a lot of sense and is perhaps the real country strong of all of the characters.
I have seen Hedlund in 'Three Brothers' and he was so memorable in that film. Very brave performance. As he is here. I cannot tell its the same actor and that is fine talent indeed! I also seen him in Tron. Not my kind of film but he gave a likable performance.
His deep rich voice is suitable for the songs he sings and don't miss Beau's deleted scenes on the dvd! In my opinion they should not have been cut out.
I believe he is the main attraction of this film! He has the funniest scenes and does the kindest actions.

I agree about Silver Wings. My fave deleted scene- which I know you'll enjoy them all-there's about five!- is when he says goodbye to his mother.Very convincing and he is a great actor! That scene especially should not have been cut!

I agree. The songs are great and I found myself singing the songs and buying the soundtrack! Which I never buy country music!
I was very surprised how much I enjoyed this film. Repeatedly so as well.I'm not sure why its so affective but I think it comes down to who can handle pressures of the business and daily struggles, and who can't. And the best way to handle conflicts of all sorts.
That's a very human basic element and this film has four characters all facing some sort of demons and who will be the one strong enough to take command.
Not many films are like this on a human level.
Its very refreshing to have Beau as strong while everyone else is withering.

The dvd deleted scenes have 4 or 5 Beau moments that help explain some of his experiences and inner conflicts with negativie, weak personalities.
He's a great character.

I loved Garrett and Leighton. When I first saw this, I didn't know they could sing. They surprised me

Agreed, he stole the film. Great singing and acting performance by Hedlund. I liked Gwyneth's singing but not really her acting in this one. Leighton was ok. Tim McGraw continues to impress.

All around great movie - keep a hankie handy for the emotional scenes. Bring your dancing shoes for the music.

Agreed that this is a very watchable movie, but Garrett's role seems confusing. He takes turns humping the female leads, he wants to make music, but he initially turns down the opportunity to play in front of huge audiences, he plays pseudo-caretaker to Gwyneth, he spouts a bunch of nonsensical country hogwash throughout the movie. Other than that I liked his character....hahaha

Garret Hedlund is truly amazing in this movie. He is this movie. Brilliant!!

I think he is one hottie. I love his voice and he can put his boots under my bed anytime...lol Now I have to get the DVD and watch those deleted scenes. I too have seen him in all his other moves and this one really showed how much talent he has. I feel he stole the whole show and Paltrow and McGraw cant hold a candle to him. McGraw has never been a good actor anyway and I wish they would stop pushing him in the movie biz.

I just saw this movie for the first time and I'm ready to watch it again. I have never hated country music, but it was never my forte. But Garrett Hedlund "blew me away" with his singing, his acting and his beautiful eyes. Gweneth Paltrow was great! I never new she could sing. She rocked singing "coming home". Meester was also a huge singing surprise. Loved the duets she did with Hedlund. This movie was a real pleasant surprise!

OK OK OK...the music is good. But what about the MOVIE? Again, it's watchable and the leads are easy on the eyes. But his character just seems whacked.

I do like some of the music business realism, when the manager smacks down the girl by the bus.. "you didn't think this was for you?"

I don't think I had even heard of Garrett Hedlund before I saw this movie. Then I had to Wiki him to see if he is a country singer or an actor! Anyway, as others have said, he was terrific in this movie. VERY handsome and sweet and he can sing too.
