Only 2 episodes in and we already have examples of bad writing (spoiler)

I was kinda disappointed by the 2nd episode already having a pretty big example of bad writing.

I am talking about the part where the penguin manages to sneak up to the guy that was tied up in the basement and stab him to death without getting any blood on his cloth. If there's anything watching the news taught us is that in a such a situation you'd probably end up with blood stains all over yourself and would have to get changed for it not to be suspicious.
it's too bad because otherwise the show seems to be very well done as far as acting and atmosphere etc...

Buddy....there's a million fantastical thing in this show, and this is the one thing you're hung up.. that means ithe show's doing a lot better than anyone can have imagined. Good writing, bad viewer 👏🤪

reply

That stood out to me as well.

reply

It's not just that ... no one at the door? And the penguin had enough time to talk to the guy and slowly walk away, unseen?

Yeah, that was quite bad.

He was able to sneak up to him because the kidnapped guy was drugged. He was able to stab him because he was handcuffed to a pipe while being on a bedframe. He got blood on his hand as he stabbed him once and twisted the knife around his heart. He then wiped it off with a nearby cloth. The victims clothing soaked up most of the blood so it wasn't gushing all over. I dunno what news you've been watching but it was probably fake news because no news channel would show that without blurring the gruesome parts. And this has nothing to do with writing but more on the props department.

I thought it was dumb that he KEPT the knife. Even dumber that he was able to plant it on someone so obviously. Even MORE dumber, Sofia - as smart as she is - immediately buys into the story. But yes, I agree that whole little plot-line was wonky.

reply

All of these things you mentioned crossed my mind, too. I was kinda like, "Ummmm, okay."

reply

What would be cool is if later in the season sofia says something like, "I knew it was you all along [that killed the prisoner in the basement], but I didn't need any more eyes on you. I needed you".

reply

Well, that sounds interesting. If you mean by "knowing all along" that she knows Penguin killed her brother, I would almost have to disagree. That's a crime that I could see her not letting go immediately. But I have wondered if she knows and has been sitting on it for some reason. In Ep3, she did say she danced on her father's grave, so she may not give a shit about her brother.

If you're right, that would mean she is as cold and calculating as anyone could possibly be. ("Revenge is a dish best served cold") That would be so cold that the show should be called The Hangman. It would be a good direction, just so we can see how Penguin would work his way out of it. He's shown incredible tenacity so far. It is his show, so I assume he's gonna come out on top......somehow.

reply

Sorry, I meant that if she said she knew he killed the prisoner in the basement. I agree - she would never let the killing of a family member slide.

That Geico commercial with the kids not getting into the running car is proof of stupidity or bad writing in movies. (l love that commercial) I dislike it too, but it's gotta be like that sometimes for the drama to work. I think everything you watch can be dissected. In movies and tv shows, there's always things that thing you just gotta let go. Rarely do you see any perfection. If you did, most shit would probably be boring.

Sci-fi, horror, and supernatural stuff have more leeway to act a fool because it isn't real to begin with. But when it's rooted in the reality we know, then bad writing or unrealism is easy to see.
