'City of Bones' DID NOT Bomb...
The Marketing and Merchandising Departments Did!!!
Seriously, if they didn't focus solely on the teen demographics, and included the 18 to 45 demos (YES, 45), ESPECIALLY women, they would have made a KILLING at the box office!!! Three words is all it would have taken, too. Even for women who haven't even heard of "The Mortal Instruments" series:
Jonathan - Rhys - Meyers
I'm a 35 year old woman who was/is a fan of "The Tudors", a fan of "Dracula" and a HUGE FAN of Jonathan Rhys Meyers!!! (Whoa... fans self) I was going through a JRM withdrawal, so I decided to look him up here on IMDb to see if he had done anything else that caught my fancy recently. When I saw the title, "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones", that his character was named "Valentine" and that the snippet at the top of its page said, "When her mother disappears, Clary Fray learns that she descends from a line of warriors who protect our world from demons. She joins forces with others like her and heads into a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld.", that was all I needed... And, Oh. My. Goodness!!! I didn't even know this was based on a novel, much less the first in a series, so that led me to that actual series of novels. I'm currently on the third, and am trying my hardest to finish this as quickly as I can so I can get back to it. Yeah, I keep saying that series is holding me hostage. I'm only allowed to do this because this is about it. I certainly hope that they follow through this time and make "City of Ashes" and learn from their damned miscalculations so that the rest get made, too.
