saw the movie first then read the book

First off I love all things that are young adult novel movie adaptations. so of course I had to check this one out. The mortal instruments have been on my reading list for years but had never gotten around to it. So I decided i would see the movie first then check out the book if I was still interested.

The movie for me a person with no knowledge of the plot made sense. I thought it was interesting and a good little love story and action so whatever. I liked it and couldn't understand why the fandom was so let down.

Then I read the book and what the hell. Completely different, the writers literally changed everything. As a book it worked, but I totally understand why they changed things for the movie. I totally get the not have Simon turn into a rat and adding Isabelle and Alec into other scenes where they weren't it worked.

But, the ending sucked. Even watching the movie I thought it was cheap and like any other villainous movie I'd seen. I wish they would of stuck with what happened in the book. For one it makes a lot more sense and it gives a deeper context to the relationships of Jace, Valentine and Clary. The books ending gives more of a reason to love Luke.

The movies ending was a cheap scapegoat that left the viewer with no sense of connection to the characters that in the book, have deep emotional ties.

For one I find a calm calculating book villain more horrifying than the in your face villain that the screenwriters procured.

Rant over. These are just some thoughts, and I will be reading the rest of the series.

I agree completely with you. The other thing was in the book Valentine got Clary and Jace to believe they were siblings, in the movie thy were all like "I don't believe him". I don't know what they are going to do with that if they make future movies, because that is such a big part of it later on.

I did the same thing as you.
I saw the movie once it premiered on Starz and then decided to read the books.
I thought the books were so much better than the movie and read each book within a day.
I hope they make City of Ashes and keep it true to the book and continue on with the franchise.
The writers let the movie end with so many questions unanswered that I feel they have to make a second movie, if only to answer the questions. I personally can't wait for the second movie to be made and for them to release the final book.

I don't, it would worked and we wouldn't have that stupid vampires wanting the Mortal Cup plot hole. Plus Raphael would have been cool to see.

I would always rather be happy than dignified.
