Another pointless movie detail...

Watched the movie again on Starz (I can't seem to resist, even though I complain about it the whole time!), & I felt the need to rant about Luke's werewolf "panic room". How stupid is it to show him locking himself in this room, and then changing into a werewolf at will during the rest of the movie? Seems to me they could have cut that out and used that time to develop other bad parts. Like Simon's vampire bite.
Other rants: Hodge, one of the greatest Shadowhunters that ever lived? EVERYTHING about Valentine!! The tiptoeing around frozen demons (WTF?) And please someone explain to me who's bright idea it was to dream up (for no apparently GOOD reason) the horrifically bad storyline of Bach being a Shadowhunter and his music being bothersome to demons? I said GOOD reason...not just to rile up Dorothea the Demon. What was wrong with the way things went down with Dorothea in the book anyway? All these things seem so pointless. I expect reasonable changes adapting books to movies. So can anyone explain the reasons for these changes and "improvements"?
Ahhhh...I feel better now that I got that off my chest! lol

Hi, I share similar frustrations with this movie. I'll never get over that whole frozen demon thing! What's the point of having the ability to stop a gaggle of demons in their tracks if you're just going to wait around for 3 minutes until they un-freeze and then get killed by them? There are some truly cringe-worthy moments in this movie. And yet somehow I still love it, and I also can't resist watching it whenever it's on TV. As many criticisms as I have of the movie, I'm happy it was made because it got me to read the books which I dearly love.

The werewolf panic room thing didn't bother me as much as Simon's vampire bite ("oh no! my best friend was bitten by a vampire! eh, he'll be fine. oh that Jace is sooo dreamy!"). Anyway, I've always thought that as a werewolf living in a major city it might be difficult for Luke to find a place to "wolf out" in private, not be seen by mundanes. So him having that wolfy-express-your-feelings room doesn't seem that crazy to me. Also, I can't remember if it's said in the books that werewolves have more trouble controlling themselves around the full moon, so maybe the room is for that wolfy time-of-the-month. Lastly, they don't spend that much time on it in the movie and it seems less ridiculous than Bach being a Shadowhunter. Out-of-shape, pudgy-bottomed Bach took time out of his busy schedule of raising 19 kids and writing many musical masterpieces to kill a few demons here and there. Sure. I actually kind of like the idea, but I think a different composer would have made more sense--i.e. Mozart, like many a Shadowhunter, died young.

Unfortunately, the only people who can say why certain changes were made are the filmmakers, and they aren't talking. They could at least be decent and say whether or not they are still working on a sequel.

Because of common sense. It's a two hour-long movie. Not every detail or character or thread from the source material can or should be adapted.

Well the movie did flop critically and financially so...

I agree, I still find it cringe worthy.

If he was more like the Silent Brothers then MAYBE... since they are Shadowhunters but not active in fighting like Jace. But there's the whole mutilating yourself thing so I guess it wouldn't work.

Agreed. I wonder that myself when the crew uses the whole "there's no way we can make The Book: The Movie" or "We can't fit every single detail from a 400+ page book" excuse as to why they added such pointless, dumb scenes instead. I'm not asking for the whole book but I'm not asking for added on scenes that serve no purpose.

I would always rather be happy than dignified.

Its like with all these stupid movies, dont start thinking about it. Its expected of you NOT to think, thats why they make this dribble in the first place.
