Valentine and Jace horribly miscast.

Valentin is described as being muscular and huge. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is a skinny little thing.

Jace is supposed to look like a young Leo DiCaprio. Instead we get this bug eyed fugly little boy.

Totally disappointed.

At least Simon is totally cute.

Alec looks to be pushing 40 not 17/18.

And I'm pronouncing Valentin as Valen-TEEN not like in the movie Valen-TINE.

I completely agree with Valentine. I didn't get that casting at all other then he seemed like he could play a person that could get his way with charm/looks.

Jace however I felt was pretty well cast. Other than I think they could have found someone more muscular, Jame Campbell Bower did a great job with the personality adaptation of the character I think. I'm disappointed that there probably won't be another to see if he can handle all the phases of Jace.

He might not have been right for this role but have you ever seen Jonathan Rhys Meyers act in anything else?He is talented he does not get by on his looks

i am fire i am death

reply

I don't think he was a bad actor. He just doesn't look the part at all based on book description. But his mannerisms, fit well.

reply

Robert Sheehan is the only reason to watch this movie. He was the only good thing about it.

Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure.

reply

I thought the character of Jace was spot on..Valentine and Clary, not so much..

reply

I couldn't believe I didn't recognise him! I didn't even realise it was him until I came to check it out on imdb after I watched it.

Worst. Rescue. EVER!

I'm gonna have to agree, Chris Hemsworth or Viggo Mortensen would have been a better choice.

I heard that Cassandra had Robert Downey Jr. in mind when she was writing Valentine so maybe that's why they got Jonathan.

They tried to get a fan favorite for Jace but he refused. I really loved JCB for Jace, He understood the character and tried to do him justice.

I would always rather be happy than dignified.

reply

I thought Valentine was meant to be based on Lucius Malfoy from CC's Draco trilogy. Jace was based on Draco Malfoy and Clary was Ginny Weasley.

reply

I agree about JCB, I feel like he got Jace right.

I have to disagree with saying they were miscast, I think Jonathan Rys Meyers made a great Valentine b/c he was attractive so he draws you in but you could sense that under layer of darkness from the way he acted. And because I didn't ever try to picture Jace any specific way other then blond and blue eyed as in the books I think Jamie Campbell Bower was great for it and the accent totally added to his character. As for Alec since he is older then Isabelle who is the same age as Jace, who is like a year older than Clary supposedly it makes sense if he looks a little older and I look at him and see maybe 19 or twenty. I do agree that Simon was cute though.

reply

i believed they were all miscast too. Especially Jace and Clary. I never envision Clary to act like that when I read the books.

reply

I think the 'acting' you saw had more to do with the overall writing of the script and not necessarily Lilly Collins. I think all the actors cast worked, the material, overall and the final execution just didn't work.

reply

JRM could have done a great job with Valentine if the production didn't completely change the look and demeanor of the character.

Jace, yeah... just bad.

reply

Yeah JRM is a excellent actor. His direction was probably what went wrong.

Welcome to Morganville. You'll never want to leave.

reply

I agree about JRM.

reply

Jamie Campbell actually acted the part of Jace well, though he could have been more muscular.
