Great movie

I just saw Red Hill in NYC and all I have to say is, wow, just wow. It's such a great movie that was completely refreshing, and shockingly original from the movies that were put out the same weekend this came out like For Colored Girls or Megamind. I'm not saying all movies that weekend were bad, 127 hours is great, but Red Hill is unlike anything I have ever seen in a theater before. It mixes so many genre's of film that I am sorta surprised how well it worked out. It's got everything from a Western, Drama, Horror, and even a bit of comedy (mostly near the beginning). And that finale, whoa, it was amazing how tense I was. I do admit, truthfully, the middle part I had an issue with here and there but nothing that didn't put this film below a 7.5 out of 10 for me. I'm just shocked how many people in the US do not know about it, even with Ryan, the True Blood star, as the lead. The music, wow. Is that an original score? If so, it's amazing. Just amazing. I also liked how brutal it was. Sure, it's a western, but I love how Jimmy uses weapons that range from pistols to boomerangs. All in all, I'd say this was one of the better times I enjoyed going to the movies this year, and that's not an easy feat since I've been there far too many times this year alone. Hehehe.....

I would give it a 7.5 also, but since it was either that or an 8 I voted it an 8, since a 7 wouldn't do it the justice it deserves. A really cool film.

I thought it was great as well. It wasn't perfect, of course, but it was heaps of fun.

I just got home from seeing this movie...

As an Australian, I'm so proud of this movie. I would probably say that this is the best Australian movie ever. It could have so easily been a corny Western style movie, but despite flirting with the possibility of falling into a cliche early on it just grew and really held up on it's own.

The thing I liked about this movie the most was that it had only 1 ending. So many movies these days feel like they need to tie up every loose end, but this one told the story that needed to be told and didn't get sidetracked.

My friends and I all thought it was horrible. Everyone in the cinema was laughing at various points in the film as well.

Australia turns out some excellent films and this was certainly one of them; it was much better than I was expecting. Sure there were a few bits here and there that didn't add up - I thought the panther was a redundant attempt to inject a little bit of surrealism - but overall I'd recommend it unhesitatingly.

Ryan Kwanten was pitch-perfect - I hope this leads to a lot more and better parts for him. He makes Shia the Cow look like the tosser he is.
