Because all he wanted from the beginning was sex without risking his masculine reputation.

Every bit of his behavior showed all he wanted was sex and didn't really care. Michael wanted it to be more than it was. Michael just wanted to be with someone/have a relationship. Not the first person to do that to themselves.

Dude found her feminine qualities attractive but didn't consider Michael a woman at all.

He did not identify as a gay man. Men that like transgendered women, are not gay. Plus what would you think his circle of people would think that he's darting a transgendered girl?
