plaza was great in this
a decent thriller
shareI've been a fan of her for a long time and I agree that she was great in this. I thought that this was a great thriller.
shareIf you like Aubrey Plaza then check out Ingrid Goes West. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5962210/ She's great in this movie!
shareTour de force performance by Aubrey Plaza--the best of any actress so far in 2022. What makes her role even more riveting, profound and believable is the relevance of her character who is living in a world where upward mobility is virtually non-existent. This is a case study and a social commentary on the failure of late stage capitalism and rampant wealth inequality which makes some believe that engaging in a life of crime even when they fully know that crime does not pay, is the only way out.
shareEmily wasn’t desperate with no way out but crime. She was a vile person down deep into her DNA. She realized she enjoyed hurting the victims of her crimes even when it came to involve individual people rather than amorphous businesses. She moved from personal confrontation Tom drug abuse to property theft to violence without interlude. You could see her get more and more energized the deeper she got into the criminal world. She was exited to learn and improve the criminal enterprise. She was remorseless in abandoning the only person who showed affection for her. She amassed money that would have easily sustained her through the unpaid internship to the promise of a fulfilling, legitimate career and an employer willing to overlook her criminal record. But she imploded that opportunity on a pretext that provided her an Excuse to return to crime. Emily was a lazy, manipulative, drug abusing, malevolent human who was happy to revel in capitalism when it unleashed her fundamental malignant nature to exploit other people. And the ending showed how it was not about being trapped but about improving her own financial position on the victimization of others. This is why the notoriously devilish Aubrey Plaza was perfect for this role
shareI agree. I got Al Pacino vibes from her! She took a 6/10 movie, and turned it into an 8/10!
shareYes, she was. I have only seen her in comedies.
shareThought it was slightly above average, mostly because the latter half falls apart, but she does a good job of creating an unlikable character.
shareyea, i think she finally found her role. it's not comedy. it's psycho/killer type roles. she just has the look for it.
