thank you, daryl
it’s about time someone doing what needs to be done without a lot of words.
shareHonestly i thought Daryl was being a little extreme. If they start viciously killing everyone in their cross hairs, even unarmed people surrendering, without any regard or after thought then how are they any better than Negan.
shareThey're NOT better than Neegan. Neegan's inspired loyalty out of fear... what good has "just the loyalty" that Rick fosters been?
I mean, yeah, you got your Glenns, Maggies, and Daryls, but what about the Loris, Shanes, Moraleses, and Andreas?
Neegan don't got those low lifes!
Of course they are better than Negan. Rick never his group
like a terrorizing tyrant. I think you have a morality problem.
Kill them all
Talk it through later
This is a revolution ... a war.
It is not a philosophical or moral argument.
The imperative was that Negan must be removed from power.
The rest falls out from that.
Remove Negan and all his lieutenants would rise up to take
over, plus what happens if and when they win. They have to
deal with people who like Rick's group will never live under
Rick's authority.
You have to make these decisions before you even attempt the
action. The time to prove you are human and better than Negan
is after you win, take over and set up a government.
I understand war.kill or be killed. But if someone drops their gun in front of me and says i give up there's no way i could bring myself to kill them. There's a difference between war and cold blooded murder. And lets not forget Negans sadistic recruitment methods. Many of his people are only with him because the alternative was a spiked baseball bat to the skull. Some of these people are slaves forced to work for Negan because the alternative was a brutal death.Or the women he forces to sleep with him. Those are innocent victims. How do they distinguish the innocent victims from the real Negans if Ricks group is just executing everyone on sight.
shareif they have a weapon in their hands, they are not innocent. rick and company do not have the guns, food or people to guard prisoners. they are just going to have to live with the horrors so the next generation can have peace.
shareBeing forced to work for Negan means having a gun in your hand instead of a bat to your head. Anyway, this kid didn't have a weapon anymore. He dropped it when Rick asked him to. I can't argue with Daryl taking out Morales, but he just made a liar out of Rick when he killed an unarmed, cooperative (told them where the weapons went) kid who was clearly surrendering.
share"if they have a weapon in their hands, they are not innocent."
If they were forced to put those guns in their hands by a stark raving lunatic with a baseball bat then they were innocent.Considering the alternative was painful death it's not like most of had a choice.
"rick and company do not have the guns, food or people to guard prisoners."
Who said anything about taking prisoners.I can think of a dozen less violent ways they could have handled that situation. They could have shot the kid in the leg or foot making it impossible for him to go and warn anyone and left him to fend for himself.Sure he probably would have died by zombie but at least he would have had a fighting chance. As cruel as that sounds it's a thousand times more humane than what Daryl did.
As evil as Negan is at least he gives his victims a choice.Join me or die.Ricks people aren't giving anyone a fighting choice.their just executing everyone in sight.
Yes, this is a great point. The saying 'War is Hell' is so true.
shareI get what you are saying, normally,
but sometimes there are situations where even
innocent people get caught up in a moment.
For example, I forget the name of the movie, but
there were American soldiers on a mission in Afghanistan,
and they run across some sheepherders outside their
destination. Do they let them live, and risk that one of
them may not be what they seem and will inform the
insurgents? Normally they could take them as prisoners,
or maybe let them go, but if they don't, and they make
the wrong decision, they and their mission will be dead.
It doesn't matter if someone is an innocent victim in some
situations, because victimhood does not mean they will not
act in the interests of their abuser out of fear or habit.
If you do not know what someone will do, and you have to
have security or secrecy you risk making the wrong decision.
Who really made the wrong decision, but no one talks about
is Morales. He knows Negan is wrong, and may even hope
or suspect that he has a place in the post-revolution order,
and yet he is going to kill Rick. What about him? No one
looks at this from his point of view.
And another wrinkle is that you cannot even trust people who
pretend to want to work with you. How many American and
Iraqi government soldiers have been killed by a Taliban
in their midst turning around and shooting them once they
have been accepted as recruits?
Daryl going in and taking out someone he used to live with, without dialogue or consultation tells me he's basically Negan. However, this is what has to happen to take out Negan, because any one of his saviors will stab you in the back if you let them go.
shareShane would have X'ed that dude out no problem, and probably should have back in season 1, just to save Rick and Daryl the future trouble.
shareWhen it happened I thought it was brutal, but in this situation it is the right thing to do ... and they should have decided on a policy for this before they started the revolt.
shareGotta agree! As a fan, it was a breath of fresh air to see Daryl hit his target in one shot. IMO, Daryl's exposure to Negan's group was always met with with an aggressive intent to kill by Negan's camp. It should be no surprise that Daryl has zero tolerance for anyone in Negan's group, even if they're surrendering.
I get why Rick would have a quick moment of "you made a liar out of me" in that situation, but I also understand why Rick didn't make a fuss about it either.
