Dwight left that behind to inform the group that he wasn't aware of the deal Negan made with the Garbage Pail Kids. He knew Darryl would understand the message is from Dwight because that's what he gave Darryl in their first run in together when Dwight was trying to escape Negan.

Even if Dwight didn't know about the deal with the garbage people, he was still working for Negan the whole time and was lying when he came to work with the Alexandrians. That was all a set up and he was back with Negan when Negan arrived. So why would Daryl even care about the one thing Dwight didn't know, when he was double crossing them the whole time anyway?

I think that we're to believe that Dwight is only pretending to be with Negan at this point. If he's for real with Rick then they're better off with him keeping up appearances with Negan
