The WORST Screenplay of the Decade!
Greta Gerwig just can’t make up her mind on how to theme her projects. Barbie starts out fresh, magnetic and fun. We’re in on the joke. Then she goes to the real world and the drama gets really overrated and the sappy “women empowerment” speeches hit. I haven’t cringed so much in along time! What a scam this was.
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are excellent in their respected roles, and I laughed at Will Ferrell. But the rest of the cast looks like they’re performing really bad stand up at a local improv theater. It just felt desperate.
And the hallmark film channel dialogue when things get “serious”’ is laughably bad. I hope the academy snubs this in the screenplay category, because it was atrocious.
I guess it doesn’t matter since it made $1 billion dollars. I did enjoy the production design, music and amazing costumes. But like Lady Bird, Gerwig’s sloppy logistics with focusing on a smooth narrative we can enjoy - tumble.
