Ken = Dumb Sexist White Guy
Because of course he is
shareI thought it was so strange in the trailer when he clearly believes that only men can be doctors. Yet isn't there a Barbie for everything? Certainly Doctor Barbie. Why would Ken think only men can be doctors, given the world he lives in?
shareMaybe he's just stupid and uninformed. When Barbie appeared in 1959, about one out of fourteen medical doctors in the U.S. was a woman. That's more than 20,000 women doctors. Certainly he would've heard of some, if his head wasn't up his ass.
shareCareful, such an observation means you'll get labelled fragile. Men being depicted as infantile and stupid is a good thing for society.
shareIt's a comedy and he is meant to be a comedic character. He doesn't represent all men, any more than Darth Vader does.
shareUnfair comparison. This movie is going to have a lot of social commentary, unlike Star Wars.
shareIt's a comedy and he is meant to be a comedic character. He doesn't represent all men, any more than TYLER DURDEN does.
shareSo you agree that Ken represents men then?
shareTyler Durden was drenched in post-modernist social commentary. Of course he didn't represent all men.
But it sounds like Ken is going to be drenched in post-modernist social commentary as well, but not in an positively anarchistic way like Durden (who at least was basically pushing the red-pill message before red-pill was even a thing, of being better, improving yourself, working out, getting stronger, and becoming a high-value and respectable man).
