If Laurie isn't actually Michael's sister then his motives make no sense

He would have absolutely no connection to her at all, yet he was specifically and purposely stalking her and trying to kill her. It was the whole point of him escaping and tracking her down. So why did he did that and make that his entire goal to find her if he had zero connection to her? He wouldn't even know who she was.

He wanted revenge on her after what she did to him in the original. She stabbed him with a coat hanger

Right, but my point is, why was he even seeking her out to begin with? If she wasn't his sister, he wouldn't even have known who she even was, yet he was hellbent on escaping the institution to find her specifically.

He probably saw on facebook that Laurie was still living in Haddonfield, so he wanted to seek her out and finish the job he started in the original

Was it his entire goal?

He was wondering around most of the movie killing people. If anything Laurie went looking for him originally. She seemed to instigate the meeting between her and Michael, if anything. After witnessing Laurie for the first time here again, maybe Michael just decided to go after her then and there. There's no confirmation that this was pre-meditated on the part of Michael Myers.

Besides, even if he had decided to go after Laurie deliberately, it still makes sense. I mean, he's been locked in an institution for 40 years. After his 1978 killing spree, one victim had survived. He's had decades to brood over that. And all the doctors who had seen him would've been interviewing him about that night. Michael would've been reminded of her time, and time, and time again. It's not as unbelievable as people seem to think that in Michael's insane mind, he'd have fixated on the one person who eluded him over and over again.

It's not like Laurie had moved half way across the world, and Michael followed her. She was still living in Haddonfield. The one place Michael continually returned. He could just go round killing, and he'd probably run into her eventually. It was only supposed to be some small, sleepy town. And that's exactly what happened. The movie doesn't even make it clear whether that was Michael's plan all along, or just the way it worked out because of the decisions that Laurie made.

He was not stalking her at all. She put herself in his path.
