This Michael Myers walks/acts like
The Michael Myers in Halloween 6
shareThey got the guy from the original Halloween for a few scenes...which I think is a nice touch (and tribute). That guy sure nailed it in '78. His movements were perfect. Even the slight head tilt...when he nails the guy up on the wall with the knife and he sticks there. That subtle head tilt...MAKES the scene. Or, in the scene near the end, in the bedroom....when Laurie thinks he's laying there dead......the way he rises up from the supine position, solely by bending at the waist....and then almost robotically turning his head on a swivel to face Laurie. There should be an Oscar award for body movements and physical acting. Andy Serkis would have 10 by now.
shareHow can Nick Castle still be so good? He was 30 in the 1978 movie and now he's 70. How many 70 year olds can move like they did when they were 30?
shareWell, there are 85 year olds fitter and with more drive than some in their twenties. Nick's in good shape and Michael is supposed to be older in this one. He'll do it justice.
shareNot seeing the similarity.
Halloween 6 Michael was no doubt strikingly different from every Michael that preceded him. He moved and acted like a wilder, more brutish slasher villain and didn’t fully give off a ghostly vibe like that of previous Michaels (though it was effective).
This new Michael? What really struck me about him since the first trailer, is how much he resembled the original Michael. I found his posture, head movements and walk to be straight out of Halloween 1978. I can perhaps see H6 Mike in him when it comes to how vicious he appears to be, but that’s it.
Anyways, Nick Castle reportedly returned for only one - big - scene as The Shape in the new Halloween. But methinks he gave the new guy some pointers because this Michael’s presence totally reminds me of classic Michael Myers (that’s the whole point). It’s worth noting almost every Michael actor that stepped into Castle’s shoes seemed to try to replicate what Castle did in the original to an extent. However, I dare say this time it feels right.
Bringing Nick Castle back was probably mostly a ceremonial gesture of respect, similar to how they brought Peter Mayhew back to don the Chewbacca suit (for just a couple scenes) in The Force Awakens.
