Agreed about dreams being an overused trope. They really don't need to explain away anything. Storytelling isn't as rigid as it used to be. The way I see it, people can simply choose their poison in terms of viewing timelines. Comics have been giving us divergent timelines for years. I don't see why this is any less valid as a new tool for big-screen storytelling. Here are your options:
H1 through (minus H3) H6 (producers cut or theatrical cut).
H1 and H3 (as if this was an anthology series)
H1, H2, and H20
H1, H2, H20, and H8 (Although I'm unsure if anyone wants to acknowledge Resurrection)
Rob Zombie's H1 and H2
H1 and Haloween (2018)
See? They can all be canon in different viewing orders.
