No love for Billy Burke?

I can see why everyone makes posts praising William's Accountant. He is one of my absolute most favorite actors, and his performance was simply epic. But, why not a single thread about Billy Burke's Jonah King? Guy needs some love too.
I was quite impressed by his performance, as I thought he was really good and fitting as a satanic leader. He made a great villain. Pretty hot, also.
He might not be as perfect as William, but is still a much better actor than the rest of the cast. I liked him in other movies and roles too, after all.

Sorry I didn't rate him - thought it was like a sub Louis Cyphre take off.

Too busy doing other stuff I guess http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzpVozZQi-U

Seems like a poor man's Billy Bob Thorton.

reply

Because there's nothing to write about; just did his job as required. Meaning he just played his character appropriately to be disliked but he didn't really make it awesome or anything. Just another run of the mill bad guy that they could've recasted and made no difference.

I think the point was that Jonah King wasn't really a 'villain'. Sure, he had plans to kill Milton's granddaughter but did you ever really believe he'd achieve that? I certainly didn't. In fact, compared to other TRULY evil villains, King is a bit of a joke. He's someone who's great at posturing his 'evilness' but ends up a bumbling fool when it comes down to proving it.

In other words, I think Burke did an excellent job portraying him.

Of course he was capable of succeeding, otherwise The Accountant wouldn't have decided to help Milton.

reply

Not really. If anything, the Accountant allowed Milton to finish what he'd started because that would earn brownie points with the boss(who hated people sacrificing children in his name, remember?). Otherwise, every other instance in the movie where Jonah King had a chance to show how evil he was ended up as an embarassing and utter failure. Just for example....King loved to shoot his pistol like a gunslinger(one hand to pull the trigger, the other to slam the hammer back between shots to decrease firing time)which certainly looks badass but he never seems to hit what he's actually aiming for. Hell, he couldn't even hit Piper when she jumped out the back of the RV and that was only from a few feet away. lol

This is BB's best role so far, for my taste anyway. But I never realized until this movie how much he resembles Tommy Lee Jones. I couldn't keep my mind off it all the way through. I enjoyed the movie anyway.
Isn't this one of those movies based on a 'graphic novel'?

i think it's probably because most of the films best stuff revolves around Cage/Fichtner/Heard.

I felt Burke was the weakest link in a movie that couldn't afford very many weak links. Was that a Southern drawl he was attempting? Whatever it was it was atrocious and annoying. If he was acting, I couldn't notice it in between the shooting and car chases. No love for Burke here, sorry.

Signatures annoy me.

"Was that a Southern drawl he was attempting?"

scarlettsdad, I'm not totally sure of this, but I think it was supposed to be sort of a Louisiana cajun accent, or maybe the adjacent area of Texas. It sounded like some of the people on the news after Katrina, to my ear. I'm not from around there, so I couldn't say for sure, but it did sound that way to me.

That would also make sense, in the context of where the cult seemed to be based, etc.

You are toast, my toasty friend.

Billy Burke & William Fichtner made this movie!!!!!

reply

Well said. Fichtner is perfect, but I think Burke is charismatic too, and was a great choice for the villain.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)
