Self sabotage? Attention seeking? Just plain , old, cranky and rich twerp?
This thing isn't out until May 3. Why the hell would you make a big deal about only having appeal to the non-woke or to anti-woke? Instead of promoting your new movie as having broad appeal, why go out of your way to insist that your audience is shrunk and make an effort to ensure it should stay that way? What gives?
Probably it's because Jerry has already been paid and probably has a contract that excuses him from promotion. In other words he doesn't really care about the movie's success. In fact he probably already knows that it's not very good and won't set the place of fire so he's ensuring that its failure can only be talked about in the context of the shit he's talking now.
Here's a fairly salient and stupefyingly simple fact. Jerry Seinfield absolutely can make a sitcom like Seinfeld today. Like right now. He could start shooting it without having to ask anyone. Do you know why? Because he's a fucking billionaire. He can start making a sitcom and have a whole series finished by the end of this summer and then NEVER show it anyone if he didn't want to.
What he really means is that he can't convince other people to pay him many more millions or dollars to make a sitcom like seinfield, because there just isn't an audience expected to make that risk worthwhile. They've looked at the market and thought "It's not worth it" And that's really the rub. Rich people like Seinfield believe that they should be allowed to take risks with other people's money. Never their own money.
