I'm having trouble liking it...

So far I'm 8 episodes in Season 1, it's a good show, but not great.

A lot of IMDB posters talked about this show like it was the next "Breaking Bad" and I'm not seeing it. The most annoying part for me is that it seems like each episode is independent of the next (with maybe 5-10 minutes of season story). Example: I was excited to learn more about Boyd and his family and they're still not in it!

Please convince me that this gets better.

Thanks in advance!

Im due for a rewatch, so I can't say exactly when it happens, but soon the continuing plot will become evident.

Many people dislike the stand alone episodes, but by the latter part of season one the show moves into largely continued plots--some dominating a season, some running from the first season to the conclusion of season 6. It's these continued stories that have prompted the acclaim for the show.

Stick with it. You're almost to the point where the show begins to rise to its heights.

Episode 7 was the introduction of Boyd's dad Bo Crowder when he comes to the defense of Boyd in the prison. You've gotten through the roughest part of Justified and you've enjoyed it somewhat so, I'd encourage you to continue because it's all up hill from here and Boyd will continue to be in the series and the show will not be standalone episodes anymore.

Eventually you know the history of the characters and their families. This all contributes to the effort of understanding why they make the decisions they do. I have forgotten season 1 already - and that is the season that got me hooked!

You have to get through Season 1 to get to the good stuff.

Get the facts first - you can distort them later!

Thanks guys!

It gets a lot better. I almost dropped the show after the first half of season 1, but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did.

Season 1 is very episodic but once you get into season 2 the storyline starts rolling and building up. Stick with it.

This. I almost bailed when I started. I'm not a fan of episodic shows but my friend kept telling me it wasn't like that after season 1 and I'm so glad I stuck with it. Fantastic series, and one of the few that gets better each season.

Yay, Misftz! I'm so glad you stuck with it. Fantastic series with great writing.

It really is! I'm actually missing it, lol. Just watched Vice Principals to get my Goggins fix.

Has that started? I didn't know that. Oh I love Goggins. Did you watch him in The Shield or on Sons of Anarchy? He's such a good actor.

reply

I watched him both! He really is fantastic. He was cute in VP.

I've seen some of his movies too. He's just adorable. He seems like if you met him he'd be a really nice, down to earth person.

It's about to get great. The last 4-5 episodes of season one are very good and season two is amazing. Don't give up on it yet.

As others have said, the first season is very episodic up until the last 4 episodes or so when it starts to find its groove. When I'm re-watching the series, which is fairly often, I usually watch the Pilot, then skip through to episode 9, Hatless... which is when we first meet Wynn Duffy. Episode 10 is really when it starts to focus more on the ongoing storyline though.

Season 2 is amazing so just stick with it. It's the best in the series, IMO.. and is some of the best TV out there. Overall the series isn't quite Breaking Bad level but it not too far off. It's easily one of the most underrated shows ever on TV.
The only weak points are episodes 2 through 8 of season 1 and some aspects of season 5 weren't that great.
