There's too many dumb bad guys.
Besides Boyd and Limehouse, Raylan hasn't had to deal with anybody that's actually a real threat to his own body. I was really hoping he was going to have a good showdown with Jean Baptist and the mob Hitman sent to take out Picker.
Quarles, Duffy (more of a weasel than smart, but he wasn't dumb), Mags, Drew Thompson, I don't think they were dumb at all, most of the core rednecks on the show were, but mostly the main villains were actually smart people, my problem with Justified's writing is the lack of upper hands the bad guys get, but I guess that's Elmore Leonard style.
shareActually this show had a lot of very smart bad guys. There were some dummies like Dewey Crowe but almost everybody else was very smart, like Boyd, Mags, Loretta, etc. I remember the guy (can't remember the name) who started discussing Greek mythology.
As for being a threat to Raylan, only an idiot would try to kill a U.S. marshal.
