Anybody else love this as much as me?
I enjoyed the movie so much, been kind of frustrated that I can't seem to find any kind of community that enjoyed it.
I saw glimpses of the trailer on Netflix, knew Id check it out because I'm a big sci-fi fan. Went in as blind as possible and checked my expectations at the door. It was amusing enough for those first 30 minutes. I really enjoyed the Casca matrix scene and the interrogation, had some good laughs.
I was on board to enjoy it from there and then boom! the ship explodes, she gets chucked into the pod and the movie goes from 0-60 in like half a second. It felt like one of those rollercoaster that does the bungee launch and accelerates you hard. That fucking crash landing and suddenly the movie shifts gears, it's quiet and calm, she's alone and then Smith appears. I enjoyed the fuck out of every minute of the dialogue between Atlas and Smith. I was not expecting it to be this good. I absolutely loved most scenes from here on out. Especially the Ion bomb, sink hole, the medical system, the synchronization module, the little flash backs, then her mind melding with Smith as he becomes more and more human and she becomes increasingly brave and competent.
One of my new favorite sci-fi movies. I popped up IMDb after watching, I was expecting maybe 6 scores on average. I'm not blind, I saw all that sci-fi cheesiness, I know the genre well. But I think it deserves at least a 7 from the general audience for how well it pulls off it's balance between sarcastic comedy and sincere emotion. Its musical score was also really well used and the graphics were all around solid and often impressive. I know it was cliche and cheesy in a million ways, but that's part of the fun and it was a really really fun movie.
For me, it was a 10/10. Not because I think it's the perfect movie or a masterpiece of cinema, but because it was entertaining as fuck. Netflix hasn't entertained me that hard in a long time. It was right up my alley and I know my bias. I love shit like this and it's some of the best shit like this I've ever seen.
Surprised there aren't more fanatics out there. Where you all at? Anyone else have this film hit a sweet spot for them?
