I watched it in the cinema today
Guys, I need to tell you something about this movie. I know we are all tired of these stories pushing the female characters to the forefront in a forced way and making the woman seem powerful then she would be all the while putting the men down. This movie does NOT do that.
The main character is a woman, yes, but her father, 2 brothers and male cousin are all portrayed in very positive ways and each of them get a chance to shine and meaningful moments. The other infuriating thing is when the woman physically overpowers men she wouldn't be able to. That does NOT happen in this movie. When she gets into a physical altercation, she is overpowered as she would be, and when she gets ouf of these situations it is because she thinks in a different way or has luck or someone helps her out. Her victories feel earned.
I was skeptical of this movie but honestly, it surprised me in a positive way, it was much better than I expected it to be. This is not one of those "girlboss" movies, it was written well and the visual style looked great on the big screen. I only watched it because a friend made me but ultimately I am happy I did it, because the story was very exciting and it did not feel forced at all. And they used the music very well, specially in the first half of the movie. It came through so well on the cinema speakers and added a lot to the experience.
