The aliens were horribly weak... Oh, wait... (spoilers)

A pack of gang banging kids takes out a race of feral baboon invaders? And NONE of them even gets horribly injured? Where's the tension in that?
F-ing cheese fest Shakma (1990) had higher tension and was more terrifying than one second of this movie. Was (un)intentionally funnier and heartfelt too.

Oh wait... Well this piece of trivia from the trivia section sure explains it:
Writer/director Joe Cornish has stated that watching Signs and imagining what would happen if it took place in south London was an inspiration for Attack the Block.

What would have happened if Signs took place in the UK? IT WOULD START TO RAIN AND THEY WOULD ALL DIE OUT. THE END. How do you get inspired by one of the worst/most unintentionally hilarious alien invasion movies ever???

reply

Two of them die.

OP was wrong that none of the kids got hurt, but the aliens were still weak. No matter how many glowing teeth you add, a plush-toy is still not scary.

I don't know, I guess if I saw a solid black plush toy with a mouth full of glowing sharp teeth who is intent on eating me I would be scared.

You will die! Like the others before you, one by one, we will take you!

reply

Maybe, but my first thought would be to give it a dog treat.

Certainly not H.R. Giger creation scary.

reply

A grizzly is cute and fluffy. Try to give one of those a treat.

Criticism fail.

Why is it that to make a succesful entertaining movie people always have to be up against impossible odds?

Signs was of course inspired by "war of the worlds" in the premise that these aliens are vunerable to Earth's climate/ecosystem.

These aliens are like animals... feeding and trying and breathing. Not a super advanced alien species who is vastly superior to humans. So what... made an entertaining flick to most people.

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others.
