This is at least a 7-7.5/10

What's with all the hate? So it's only acceptable when your criminal protagonists are white and rich, instead of black and from the streets? I'm really surprised by these boards and the rating, but I guess I shouldn't be...

Maybe it's only acceptable if it is:

scary,

or funny,

or has good dialogue,

or good action sequences,

or the 'good guys' aren't violent little punks.

But yeah, people didn't like the movie because of racism, just like every movie Will Smith ever did.

reply

Most people actually do like the movie and it has all of those things.

Sometimes you just gotta sit down and endure the bullsh**

I'm not going to bother with all the subjective remarks because what's the point? But who said, all films have to have your notions of what "good guy" are? I'd understand the complaint if this was based on a book or a comic, where they ruined the characters in the adaptation, but this is an original film, and I have seen countless films with anti-heroes as the stars. I'm not even black, nor am I from the UK, but I find that a lot of the comments here say more about the commentators than the actual movie. I'm not even a big fan of the movie. I'm calling it a 7/7.5 which is basically a "B" rating here. So I can obviously accept criticisms that have logic to them.

reply

I think you're absolutely right. This movie is a solid 7.5 and I have no idea why anyone would hate it. If someone is offended by the movie turning thugs into its heroes, I think that's the best compliment anyone could make this movie. I thought it was a nice little twist that gave the movie flavor but seeing all the outrage, I now think it's art.

They certainly are subjective, that being the nature of opinions. My point was that these are flaws that I saw the movie as having, so I pointed them out. You seem to reach the conclusion that any negative comments about the film are based upon racism.

But who said, all films have to have your notions of what "good guy" are?

No one said that, but I am certainly free to like a movie less because of those characters. I didn't say that my opinion was the only right one.

So have I. Check my history for some of the previous comments I made about why people don't like the main characters. I even referenced three other anti-heros by way of comparison. (That post was so hilariously misunderstood by one of the fan-girls that I nearly wept for the abysmal level of reading comprehension in this country.)

I never even said I hated the movie, I would rate it about 5.5 or a "C" on your grading scale. And please tell me which of my subjective remarks were illogical? Not all of us thought that the "That's fierce scary, bruv, brap brap" dialogue was anything special, or that plush toys with glowing teeth were scary.

reply

Well, this movie was funny, sometimes scary, and had the nice twist that the good guys were violent little punks.
